FBO/Tune Oil Weight
What weight and brand oil do you use on your FBO/Tuned N55?
I thought this would be better suited on the N55 forum than Mechanical maintenance because there are more here that are running the FBO/Tune N55s. I noticed my oil temps getting very high during my dyno test, and with 7k miles coming up soon, I wanted to start doing some research on weights to use. 0w40,5w40,10w40,5w30, etc. Also brands I would be interested in, but weights are the bigger thing for me currently. Also any reason to use aftermarket oil filter or just order from the dealer? Thanks!

I'm FBO and have been running castrol 0w40. Works well for me so far. No complaints or reason for me to change yet. Even on back to back pulls, my oil temps don't go above the normal half way mark on the gauge. I've actually seen my oil temps drop by 20F during some heavy pulls, but this was with ~40F ambient temps. As for filters, I usually just order the Mann filters off eBay a few at a time. Comes out to be like $8/each. Not sure what the dealer charges but it's the same filter

I strictly use Motul X-cess 8100 5W40 with the Mann filter. Never had any problems and it seems to run smoother and idle better. Also seems to burn oil alot less than it did with any other oil I've used. I change my own oil so I'm able to see how clean the oil is. I drive pretty hard and do occasional track days and swap my oil around 3.5-5k miles depending on how hard I drive it. Surprisingly the oil was still pretty clean.

If you live in a hot climate all the time, it may help to run thicker oil as the oil will heat up fast anyways.

Motul or Liqui-Moly 5w-40 are top rated for tuned cars

MMMM I'm FBO / hot climate, using OEM one every 5k miles change and my oil temp doesn't pass the half mark driving sometimes hard. Will get the bms oil cooler sooner.

I use the recommended oil and just reversed my oil cooler valve which allows the oil to constantly run through the oil cooler. It takes me longer to warm up, but once warmed up I consistently stay at 215 degrees even on hot days. If I run really hard for a long time I'll see 240. Best of all it's a free mod.
