Some info from a BMW Technical Training document ST1837 B46TU-B48TU Engines.PDF using the same HDP6 HPFP as in the B58 TU.
The fuel quantity control valve at the high pressure pump adjusts the fuel pressure in the rail. The maximum pressure in the rail is 350 bar (5076 psi); it is kept throughout the engine's entire operating range. The fuel pressure is only reduced to 150 bar (2175 psi) during idling. The high pressure pump contains a pressure limiting valve which opens at a pressure of 400 bar (5801 psi). The fuel quantity control valve is activated via a Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) signal and assumes the open position in the de-energized state. The original B58 high pressure fuel system has a design operating pressure of 200 bar (2900 PSI) I couldn't find any specific information, however, the Bosch HDP5 pump used for this system also has an integral pressure relief valve that would open at a value above the system design pressure e.g. 250 bar (3600PSI) to prevent over pressuring the system. For those that are installing the B58 TU HDP6 pump, no concerns that the pump may achieve pressures up to 5800 PSI due to the pressure relief valve having the higher relief limit? If the B58 and B58 TU use the same fuel rail, hardware and injectors then probably no concern. Edit: B58 utilizes Bosch HDEV 5.2 (the .2 signifies 200 bar maximum pressure) and B58 TU utilizes Bosch HDEV 6 injectors. They appear to have some significant design changes including seat size, injection pattern and volumetric distribution. Due to the fuel system pressure increase from 200 bar (2900 psi) to 350 bar (5076 psi), the solenoid valve injectors HEDV6 were optimized using suitable materials and coatings.
