Got 4 new tyres and 3 scratched alloys

Ordered through Blackcircles and delivers to my local garage for installation, this was one of their highly rated garages.

My RF tyres came off and was replaced by Cross Climate tyres. After installation I inspected the alloys (19” 704M) to find that 3 out of the 4 wheels have scratches on them on the rim.

The fitter said that the machine does not touch that part of the wheel and denied the damage. He said they was like that to begin with - the alloys were in prestine condition bar a slightest lacquer peel on 1. The manager is not in till Monday so he will contact me then.

Absolutely fuming and feel sick.

How did you pay? Recourse would be Section 75 if by credit card and get a full refund - use the money to get them fully refurbed.

A quick Google will tell you how this works, essentially your bank will argue the toss with black circles and not your problem.

I paid via debit card. Will see what the garage manager says first then approach Blackcircles.
Tbh, I’m not even that comfortable with refurbished wheels. But asking for wheel replacement will just never happen in any circumstance.

I presume you have photo’s to prove the condition prior to the work? Makes its easier to argue.

Hope you get it sorted. But it sounds like they are already being difficult.

I always say to fitter/garage before they start - look at my wheels - they are in perfect, unmarked condition - if you don't return them like that, you're going to replace them OR don't attempt the work.

Had the exact same thing happen to me at another of these chain big tyre places, doubt it’s hard to guess.
After changing 4 tyres , one wheel came back destroyed and the store manager consistently argued not there fault, machine doesn’t touch it etc.

They’ll try to fob you off and go about their day, don’t accept that.
I rang up to complain etc and in the end was put through to the local manager who came to inspect it and ended up refurbing the wheel. He even admitted it’s easier to refurb the wheels then go through any hassle with a customer especially when changing 4 tyres!

Just keep at the company and I’m sure they’ll refurb it.

Sorry to hear your plight!

Unfortunately, you have to realise that the tyre 'fitting' stations just change tyres on a regular basis. I'm not saying they are all 'sloppy' but in my opinion I don't think they take as much care as they could!
It would be interesting to know the scenario if the tyres had been purchased through them?
Hope you get a result.
Please update the outcome
Good luck!

Unfortunately, unless you've got proof of the condition before the change, you're in a 'he said she said' situation - it is literally your word against his.

And you are no more deserving of belief than the fitter is - as far as you know, he might be on the tyrefitters forum, going on about how some scumbag with a BMW is trying to con a set of alloys out of him.

I always photograph the wheels before they start the tyre change

The manager has agreed to have them refurbished at a local refurb company he recommends, which are alright from what I know of them.

I’m actually thinking of getting them refurbished in black rather than original orbit since the opportunity has arisen.

Lesson learnt - always take photos evidence and ask for inspection before the job.

Hmm, I would advise to keep things like that to your self instead of posting online, I'm not saying they damage your wheels or not but honestly can you hear how this sounds? They can easily refuse your refurb once you mention colour change, heck I will say it " I would refuse to pay for it if I was the business owner".

I had (and took) the offer of powder coating from BMW due to DC ally’s corroding. Asked for a colour change. No problem at all. Why should it matter

Put a good sealant or wax on then to prevent corrosion starting. Refurbished wheels can corrode quicker so keeping in top of the sealer/wax is a good idea.

Also, use a PH neutral wheel cleaner if you have to use one at all.

They look good anyway.

Thanks, cheers for the advice. Will get them ceramic coated as well.
