Bit of a barge, the A6, but a lovely barge at that! Of the three German premium brands, I've always thought that Aldi makes the nicest estates. Pity the main dealers are such d*ckheads - that said, they're all pretty ghastly.

I did my best at ‘man geometry’ (a subset of man maths) to try and make it work. You can just about squeeze 3 adults into the coupe, with the passenger seat slightly further forward than usual, but the dipping roofline in the rear makes it tricky. I’m 6 feet and you couldn’t fit anyone with legs behind the driver’s seat in the coupe.

At least they made the 8GC useful this time. The previous 6GC managed to be 5 metres long without space for adults in the back…

I don't know how they manage such lack of space with the 8 coupe. I know newer cars got bigger with better crash protection, but I'm 6'2.5" and can get average sized adults behind me in the E92 almost as easily as in the G31, leg space wise. Getting in and out is a bit trickier though because 2 door. Had my mum and her fella in the back and they're 5'9 and 6 foot, I was really surprised adults could fit.

The 8 coupe has a really long boot - the same as the 8GC, suggesting they’ve been forced to push the rear seats forward due to the sleek roofline. Definitely a case of form over function as it makes the rear seats almost unusable.

The 8GC has excellent rear legroom, but it’s about 25cm longer (and 3cm wider) than the coupe, losing some of the style of the coupe.

I have a secret crush on the F1* M6, especially as they can be had for £25k for a decent one. Sakhir Orange M6 coupe.....yum. I will never own one, though, as it is no use to me whatsoever.

So big with so little space.

I’ve only ever had one green car (280 brookland which only came in green) I’d never have another, I was brought up at a time a green car was considered bad luck!

Likewise, I’m of a vintage where green cars were bad luck. My first transport was a 1973 Morris Marina in what I can only describe as ‘vomit green’ - my mates called it Fireball XL-5 on account of the rusty, leaky clamshell petrol tank that sloshed onto the exhaust on a hard right turn. Fumes in the back seat were apparently quite intoxicating

Was the Brooklands the limited edition version of the 2.8i? Looked at one of them once in metallic brown with a brownish vinyl roof - drove like a dog by modern standards, but I really wanted it. Turned out to be a rust bucket with a dodgy chassis…

The 'Brooklands 280' was the run out last ever version of the Capri. Only available, as Boba says, in Brooklands Green.

Have been fetching very good money at the likes of Mathewson's until recently.

I love the look of the mkIII Capri. Inside was great aswell. They felt quite 'American' and sporty all at the same time IMO.

My first car was a 1980 1600GL in glorious beige with coloured coded beige bumpers and mirrors (and knackered suspension). It was 6 years old and cost me £1,500 via a bank loan (underwritten by my Dad).

You were clearly posh then, my first car was a 1.6GL Mk 1 Cavalier, bought with a loan from the bank of dad (who had just retired so had a bit of cash - and it was interest free, the interest free bit being my 21st birthday present!)

Mine was a white Hillman Imp. Paid £20 as it had been standing in someone's garden and used as spare storage. My Dad was mechanic, so helped me get it running. Decided after a while it was a bit under powered, especially with 7 teens in (and yes, it wasn't a 7 seater....), so splashed out £50 and bought a MK2 Escort.

I got through quite a few cars during that period (although nothing on boba-fett scale), and a gold MK1 Cavalier was among them.

My Marina was £750 if I remember rightly, paid for myself. It was acquired from a mate of my dads who had some kind of dodgy garage. I had a choice of a mustard Vauxhall Viva or the Marina. I needed it to learn in because my dad had an automatic Rover SD1 and he wouldn’t let me drive it.

It was a total lemon, sills were rusted away to nothing, as was most of the undercarriage and the gearbox needed stripping & rebuilding it was so worn. Bear in mind this was a 6 year old car…. good old British Leyland

OHS 380L was the reg. I checked the DVLA records and it was last taxed in 1985 (I sold it for £500 in 1984 when I left Uni & moved to London) so it was probably scrapped/fell apart soon after

Nostalgia’s not what it used to be…

Anyway, back on topic, and 30 years later I found myself the owner of a nice A6 Avant oil burner. Great family wagon and a decent driver if a tad portly. I’ve always hankered after an S/RS and if money was no object I’d have the RS6 in a flash.

First car I can remember really desiring as a child was a 911 Turbo. Yes they have been making them that long!

Love that RS6 you posted, stunning interior and with the exception of the matt paint, close to how I'd spec it. I hadn't realised they dropped in value that much. I'd really like to tick the RS6 Avant box some time. In fact, if funds allowed, it would make the perfect 2 car garage for me as I went for a 911 Turbo S about a year and a half ago.

Best thing I ever did - it's been epic and love every moment I'm out in it. I like going into the garage occasionally to look at it, I also have a CCTV camera covering it in the garage, so I can check up on it from anywhere. My wife & kids think I'm mad as we they call it my baby monitor!

An Allegro 1.3 was my first car. It burned more oil than it did petrol. A gallon of Duckhams Hypergrade 20W50 a week if my memory serves, which was just the 8 mile round trip to and from college.

British Leyland caused me blue smoke PTSD. Even to this today I still look in the rear view mirror on overrun and acceleration for smoke.

You can't claim to have owned a crap car until you've owned an Allegro. Literally everything else in the world, ever, is better than an Allegro.
Apart from Johnny Smith's VTEC turbo restomod one.

Favourite Audi has to be my mate's old Audi 90. Back then that thing felt like a budget rocket ship. As nice as an RS6 is, it can never beat 80s Audi velour seats with the metal frame poking through a hole whilst cornering flat out.
