Single zone climate (basic) to two zone climate (high) F30 DONE

Hello all, I started to retrofit my climate high with buying a used air box from ebay, witch had IHKA unit, all flap motors and temperature sensors on it, only wires I had to change because they were cut. So I bought a new electrical installation for air box, new solar sensor , new AUC sensor, used air grid front.
So, started to remove parts from car, starting with arm rest between front chairs and so on until I get to air box. Changed air box, and put all pieces back.
Nothing scary if you have patience and skill, I had 2 friend who helped me, one is mechanic and he removed the water tubing an 2 others ducts for air condition , the rest is simple just unscrew and screw back.
After wiring the new sensors, and put all pieces together everything is working like it was from factory.

The BIG problem is that I forget to buy the climate control too from the seller from where I bought the air box, and I used for testing the climate control of an fried car , and with his control panel, everything is working, I bought another control panel from an local dealer and this one is not working, even if in realoem.com catalog and bmwfans.info , this two panel are Bilaterally exchangeable.

So my friend car's panel is : 9287341 and is working OK, and my panel is : 9354146 witch is not working.

Can someone explain me WHY? Or can help me resolving this problem?

I promise that after I will manage to make my car work, I will post pictures and more detailed information too.

The climate control panel 9287341 is for cars built up to 04/14.
The climate control panel 9354146 is for cars built from 04/14 upwards.
Cars from 04/14 upwards have the climate control unit IHKA3.
Me and some other users weren't yet able to retrofit the IHKA3.

But you did retrofit from IHK to IHKA?
When you try retrofiting IHKA3, did you changed CAN conections to CAN2 into FEM and made coding of FEM with a newer year?

No, i did not retrofit from IHK to IHKA.
I tried to retrofit the new climate control panel with white display.
Therefore i had to retrofit from IHKA to IHKA3.
I also changed from CAN to CAN2 and also changed to a newer year.
But it didn't work.
All my experience i wrote here:

Let's make a little recapitulation : BMW F30 04.2012 with automatic climate control single zone (IHK) , wanted to retrofit automatic climate control with two zone (IHKA) , mostly for climate display .

Part's needed :

1. Air box : 64119238644 ( lucky me, 155 Euro from ebay, including all flap motors, temperature sensors, electric wires and climate control unit )
2. climate control unit : 64119296781 (included in air box )
3. sensor AUC : 64119240180
4. solar sensor : 61359293279
5. Heater duct, rear, intermediate piece : 64229207331
6. Rear Heater Duct : 64229207333
7. Adapter for rear footwell duct : 64229227810
8. Fresh air grille center : 64229218552 (from ebay 80 Euro )
9. Fresh air grille rear room : 64229265350 (from ebay 50 Euro)
10. Climate control panel : 64119287341 ( 159 Euro from ebay )

So this part list is for my car, with was made in 04.2012, for other production date, may need another part numbers.

I started by removing all parts needed to remove dash, after that removed iron support, and finally removed old air box.
I can't make an step by stem DIY because it was like an race for me and two friends. We were removing different parts in same time. All operation toked 10 hours of work, with brakes only for a cigar or a glass of water.
So after all was removed, we started to install back , starting with new air box, iron dash support, dash etc.
I had to change solar sensor, wire AUC sensor to FEM, wire rear grille ventilation to FEM, and after all was installed and wired and new control panel installed , I had to code car with 534 option.
I have a face of an very happy clown when I saw that everything is working.
I will add some pictures with some parts, and from retrofit process, but as I already told you, I didn't had time to make pictures because all was started in a Friday afternoon at 17:00 and finished on Saturday at 03:00 (around this hours).

For anyone interested in this retrofit, I can help with any information I have about it, even I don't think there will be other crazy man like me .

At least now I'm happy with my new IHKA climate.

Cool! An amazing job.

Does the dual zone climate control work? Are you able to vary the temperature across driver side and passenger side?

Yes of course. All features are working as if car had it from factory.
And no errors.

I disn't used any special FDL CODING, just added 534 to my FA, and recode car. I'm not sure that all car is need to be coded, but is better.

Really an huge work Larry! So impressive
I'm trying to fit the dual zone ac panel on my F22, that is now equipped with single-zone ac (as it was your F30).

However, I'm interested only in the digital display (as you were) and talking to a professional retrofitter of my area, he confirmed that there is a good chance of being able to mount it and make it work without errors (in any case would only have the graphics of a two-zone but the actual work would be as single zone).

Viewing CAFD present in ECU IHKA (in my SVT is present IHKA and not IHK) I found some parameters that maybe can make me mounting the only dual-zone panel with success:

3000->Luftverteilung [you can choose between Manual, 1Zonig (default) and 2Zonig]
3000->klimageraet [air distribution] -> default not active
3000->solarsensorkennlinie [characteristics of the irradiation sensor] -> don't remember the options
3000->blower_type -> again, don't remember the options
3001->besclagsvermeidung [fogging prevention] -> default not active
3001->solarsensor -> default not active
3001->MSA_schubansteurung (fan speed control) -> default not active
3001->KMV_aktiv_beschlag [fogging prevention] -> default not active

So I ask you if before doing the complete retrofit you have tried to simply fit, code and FDL code the dual zone panel?

thank you very much and again congratulations for the job

You can try, but be careful to climate panel part number. It must be for exact period of time like your climate ECU, if not then I don't think it will work at all. I saw this in my retrofit experience. Please keep us updated. Good luck!

Thank you Larry! I will try in the next weeks

Looking at BMW etk i found this codes

I don't have heated seats, so i can install just panel 1 or 3. My car was produced in march 2015, so maybe the part i need is 543 or 545.

But (stupid me) i have already bought a control panel, this is its description

The hope is in the 'Exchangable retrospectively' Installation option

I have another question:
the fresh air grille with the blue/red trigger is directly connected to the air box? Because the standard grille has a connector that arrives and is connected to nothing, just placed on the inner part of the left nozzle.

I don't remember exactly, but air grile red/blue connector is going to IHKA ECU, or to FEM.
If the climate control you bought is not working for you, please contact me, I have 2 of them, maybe one of them is working on your car.

IHKA3 -> 3000 -> mischluftregler_fahrer -> default regelung
IHKA3 -> 3000 -> mischluftregler_beifahrer -> default keine*
IHKA3 -> 3000 -> beluftungs_temperatur_regelung_vorne -> default keine
IHKA3 -> 3000 -> klimageraet -> default l7_basis
IHKA3 -> 3000 -> klimastile -> default keine
IHKA3 -> 3001 -> beischlagsvermeidung -> default nicht_aktiv
IHKA3 -> 3001 -> auc -> default nicht_aktiv
