TPMS for winter wheels

I want to retain my TPMS on my winter wheels. Do I just need sensors in my other set of wheels and everything will just work when I switch?

Where do you get your sensors?

2016 340xi if that matters.

Ya, you just need TPMS sensors in your winter wheels. However BMW used different part numbers for TPMS sensors in different years. So you have to buy the right part number or they won't work.

I put my winter wheels on a month ago. I believe that I just went on the iDrive screen and reset the TPMS. Pretty simple.

Last year when I checked, TireRack had a good price on them. There are several companies that make them. I needed one for a spare tire and bought one made by VDO. Part numbers on box say:
VDO SE52056
TPMS TG1C 433 Mhz
Tech Support 800-265-1818
My car is a 2015 335ix so it's possible that the same units are used in 2016.

Hope this helps!

Same here. My TPMS sensors were purchased as part of a wheel/tire set I bought from TireRack and they work great.

While you should be able to reset the TPMS manually from iDrive according to the manual and all other documentation, my car will not allow this to happen. I have to drive around for a couple minutes until an error message appears on the screen which has "Reset" as a selectable option. Not sure why, but this has been consistent after three wheel swaps. After the error appears and the reset happens, everything is fine.

Thanks everyone! I'm gonna pick up some sensors and new snow tires and report back once I get everything on.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but i have a question regarding the sensors aswell. Can you disable the pressure monitoring to get rid of the warnings if you dont use sensors with bimmercode for example?

I briefly tried, no go. Just got a set of tpms sensors to replace my old ones from amazon, waiting to get new tires to just put them on to avoid the extra installation fees.

Yeah, did some research and it is possible, but just doesent seem to be worth the hazzle. The coding is to advanced.

No fun expense, but i bit the bullet and ordered myself a set from eBay
