M Sport Steering wheel on saddle brown luxury line 328i

I'm one of the early adopters for the F30 and got my 328i back in March 2012. Since I got the car, I've been noting all the changes they made available for the 2013 and 2014 model years.

I've since retrofitted the new NBT iDrive system along with the Touchpad replacing my old CIC and standard controller but that didn't seem enough to improve the overall look of the interior.

Last week, I found a completely unused M Sport steering wheel along with the dual stage airbag and with the help of two friends, got it successfully installed. I was worried about how this may look on saddle brown since it's not possible to get this combination through factory in any market but I'm glad of the turnout!

All I can say is that the improvements to the overall look of the interior and the grip is amazing! It's almost like I'm driving a brand new car. We also coded 2TB (Sport Automatic Transmission) and got the paddle shifters working like OEM!

I highly recommend this mod to anyone as this is probably the most practical mod you can make to your car to get the best in car experience!

Nice retrofit. I have always wished that the M Sports would come with more of a variety of interior colors like Saddle Brown. Looks good and glad you got the shifters working!

Saddle Brown is a really nice color.. I had it on my Space Gray '09 E90 with Sport Package. I got lots of compliments. I do agree that it should be available with the M Sport Line.
Great retrofit!!!

I'm also interested in this retrofit as well as better understanding what the touchpad does?

The touchpad is standard on most 2014+ models equipped with the new navigation system and it lets you write with your fingers when entering addresses for destination input and also when searching for contacts in your phone book. You can also use it to zoom in and zoom out on the map as well as using it as a mouse when using the online browser.

As for the NBT navigation system, it's not that hard to retrofit. If you're coming from CIC, you can keep you existing screen and idrive controller but you will to replace the head unit, screen cable and Bluetooth antenna. You'll also need an activation module to get the nav and voice control working. Some rewiring will also be needed to get sound and also to get the microphone working.

I actually didn't know that we used dual stage airbags here and almost bought the Europoean version. Good thing someone here pointed out that I need a dual stage airbag and when I did another search on ebay, I found one guy in Lithuania who actually had the correct one.

I paid USD$1500 with shipping for the wheel. I did a search on etk and I don't think you can get a complete steering wheel set since the multifunction buttons, the bottom trim, airbag and steering wheel are all separate parts.

If you're interested, I can PM you his ebay ID and you can see if he has anymore complete kits like mine.

Hi Aritaurus, was there a need for any coding to be done after you changed the wheel to the M wheel.

My car originally didn't have the 2TB Option for Sport Automatic Transmission with paddles so I needed to replace option 205 with 2TB on my vehicle order and reprogram my FEM_BODY, GWS, EPS and ICM modules to get the paddles to work.

If you already have the 2TB option or if you're getting the wheel without paddle shifters, no coding is needed.

I scanned my car with ISTA and it did generate a shadow code "Steering wheel - Wrong version installed" so the dealer will see this when they scan the car. I'm going to play around with my FEM_BODY module and see if I add M Sport and see if it can make this error go away but I don't see any issues taking it in for service.

Thanks , I don't want the paddle shifters so its good to know that coding wont be required. As for service issues it should be fine as the dealer here in Malawi is very rudementry so doubt they will go that deep. I have just been sweating the coding aspect as i just did an NBT retrofit through bimmertech and waiting for them to remote code for me as i don't know how to code.Right now i have almost everything working apart from the low Kombi and NBT are not talking to each other and NAV not yet activated.

Also thank you very much for the NBT retrofit post as it has really helped me a lot to understand what i was getting into.
