Ambient lighting 💡

So after seeing the B&W backlit speakers on the g series I really wanted to try and replicate something on my F30.

So after thinking about the best plug and play solution I thought it would be easy to just use an extra set of oem ambient light modules, made up some Y cables to just plug into the ambient lighting cables.

Then used 3mm P profile side glow optic fibre to line the inner speaker cover.

Upgraded the main ambient lights to Benzinfrabik LED’s at the same time.

Completed the rear speakers today and am very pleased with how it came out.

I did plan to also add ambient lights to the door pockets but ran out of optic fibre.

Would like to upgrade the HK mids and tweeters to B&W’s when I find them for a good price.

Door led modules:

https://www.benzinfabrik.com/de/led-...number=B803817

They have a few colour options

White/blue
White/purple
White/orange
White/orange 605 ( bmw orange)

Really wanted purple/orange 605 but they didn’t offer that option although said they looking at other colour options to release later this year.

I didn’t upgrade the climate control panel as felt they were bright enough, but if you are planning a colour change they also offer them.

Mate it was a really easy one to do especially when making up Y cables for a plug and play solution.

Once I found the right size optic fibre to fit the led modules felt like a winner. 💡

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224189912669

Side glow 3mm optic fibre, loads of sellers on eBay and amazon all seems to be the exact same product. Just cost depends on how quick you want it. I have ordered more from China as was not in a hurry and 50% cheaper if you can wait.

Are all your LED modules in the pictures from Benzinfabrik?
I'm thinking I might reuse the OEM modules for the speakers, I don't want them to be as bright as the rest

I only used Benzinfrabik on the door strip modules.

My thinking was the same, I used oem lci modules for the speakers which are bright enough and kept the cost down.

If you plan on doing the Benzinfrabik upgrade you could get the cheaper pre lci module and upgrade those, then use the lci ones from you door card for the speakers. Assuming you have an lci f30.

We think alike ;-)
I have a pre-lci F36 and was thinking of reusing the OEM's for the speakers.
Regarding what you wrote about upgrading the speakers, I see more ppl on here saying its not worth it.
Upgrade the underfloor woofers if any. And let them be driven by a separate amp.
If you(as me) are not pleased with the sound, have a look at this thread to adjust the sound. There are some pretty good tips in there.

No much more simple, used 3M VHB clear double sided tape 5mm to exactly fit the profile on the optic fibre.

Awesome. 1m enough for front and rear?
Also, never took the door panels off before - is it quite fragile? so scared to break anything!
