F33 Windscreen replacement camera calibration issues

Hello,

I have got the windscreen cracked from nearly one side to the other, I am trying to find a good glass shop in Lincolnshire, found a shop that is happy to supply and fit the glass, they quoted me 540 plus VAT, thats 640ís including camera calibration, which I found it a little too much.

Another store on the continent quoted me £420 for glass and fit w/o the calibration because they have said "more often its self calibrating as not being required but if the car wont recognise road signs or perform badly at self braking or pedestrian we can calibrate it for about £50".

Now I dont rely on car to break for me yet I dont know what to believe, worth saving the extra money or not? I dont feel "safe"with the car auto calibrating but what exactly do they do to calibrate it, is the new glass so different compared to the existing one? Or perhaps better suggest a cheaper shop?

Thanks.

Not an option, I'll pay for everything out of my own pocket.

Ask the first one if they can price match but be prepared to meet them half way?

Well, you may do, but nevertheless, I can't think of a single insurer that doesn't provide windscreen cover - which has zero effect on your no-claims.
For a new screen, the excess is usually no more than £75. So why on earth would you pay more? Ludicrous...

Had mine replaced via esure too at £100.
It wasn't a BMW screen and I wasn't expecting one.
However, despite all the rumours to the contrary it works fine with the kafas and the hud.
The only difference I can see is it doesn't have "connected drive" printed on the outside, not bothered about that as "chocolate screen" would have been more appropriate given the state of it when removed.

Aviva have always been good to me, £0 excess and I even asked for OE glass which took a little longer to source, I was prepared to given a £100 excess bill but they did it for 0 still. Autoglass came and installed it with their gyroscopic arm

Guys, I appreciate you are saying the best route to go its via the insurance but if I have stated this is not an option for me I just can't make any use of insurance related advice.

Anyone knows any good car glass supply and fitting company that might do better pricing?

Thanks.

Interested in why insurance is not an option?

I had a screen replaced by an independent and it was a straight £600. No calibration for hud or lights required. I think your quotes seem reasonable.

£600 is fine, closer to what I have been quoted initially, was that a national wide company or local?

Altho in the UK, the car is not UK registered and the insurance package in the country of origin does not cover windscreen damage.

That explains it.
In that case, I'd be sourcing a screen from a vehicle breakers, then have it fitted by a local bodyshop probably.
If buying new with fitting, I'd expect the best prices would be from national companies, such as Autoglass & the like.

Ive been trying to find an used one but couldnt as they say the F33 windscreen is not the same as F32 or F30 and then I need one with HUD and camera support.

Ill give Autoglass a shout and see if I can get better price.

Not sure what you are expecting price wise but a windscreen is a major structural part of the car.

Here you go, according to Real OEM, this is for yours.... €419 delivered. I'm guessing you can easily get it fitted somewhere for less than than £200?

That's interesting, thanks, I have to check with local glass shops to see if they will fit it.
