New Photos: '13 AW M Sport 335i - AG M510 wheels
Rather than replace my two bent F10 M5 replica wheels, I decided to replace all of them with a set of 19" Avant Garde M510s. Setup is 19x8.5 ET35 and 19x9.5 ET40 with the same Hankook 225/40 and 255/35 tires that I was running on the old M5 reps.
Here are a few photos from last night. The barrel is finished in an interesting satin silver and the face a more glossy, machined look. I'm a little worried about cleaning the matte/satin finish...any aggressive scrubbing might burnish the surface and make a shiny spot. Overall, I think I liked the look of the M5 reps a little better, but these are nice too. They are pretty lightweight and I'm so glad to have the winter tires off of the car...pretty dramatic improvement going back to summer tires. I have three complaints about the wheels: 1. The paint inside the bored holes for the lug bolts is very delicate...I was very careful and just the very light incidental contact from my socket with the inside of the holes didn't just mar the paint, it straight up flaked it off! We are talking, VERY light, unavoidable contact, and I was doing it by hand, no out of control pneumatic impact wrench...I've never experienced that with any wheel...very disappointing. 2. One of the wheels (left rear) was a bit tough to seat completely on the hub, it was as if the center bore was a quarter of a millimeter too small. I cleaned the hub of any debris, and it just refused to smoothly slide on all the way like the others. I was able to get it on with about a 3mm gap before it fit flush and had to progressively tighten each lug a 1/4 turn in a star pattern until the wheel was finally flush. After I finished I realized that it's going to be a real pain in the ass to remove that wheel in November when it's time to but the OEM wheels back on with my Blizzaks. 3. I hate the raised "Avant Garde" lettering on the lip of the wheels...I didn't notice that in photos prior to ordering...it's too big and obvious...not a fan at all. Overall, I like them...not in love with them though. I'm contemplating having the wheels painted gunmetal grey and leave the face as it is, I really like that contrast with the machined face and gunmetal barrel from the M5 wheels. Pics below. EDIT: Here is a pic of the car with the F10 M5 reps back in October for comparison.... Here are the new AG M510s Last edited by AWF30MSPORT; 05-22-2013 at 02:31 PM.. |

Nice and congrats!
Is the car still lowered? Looks a bit high in the pics above.

Thanks! It's still riding on the H&R Sport springs. This is just minutes after installing the wheels and only a short 1/2 block drive from where I live, so maybe they weren't fully settled after being jacked up to swap the wheels?

Thanks!
No, it's 20% tint, it's just on the verge of being too dark...but I like it for the most part. Anything darker than 50% on the front windows is illegal in Ohio, but I've never been hassled for it. The few times I've been pulled over, I have rolled down all of the windows so they can see that there aren't any hidden threats in the car in hopes that my tint won't even cross their mind...it has worked so far. |

Looks great to me. I prefer this style over the m5 reps but I do think these would look even better in gunmetal

Yes, I bought a set of the sensors with the M5 replicas. I had the shop remove the tires and the sensors from the M5 reps and re-install them in the new AG wheels.

These wheels are in my wish list, I just got a 2013 328 base model(17" wheels) 2 weeks ago, if I replace my 17's with these 19" do I need to lower the suspension in order to make it looks like yours????
Thanks. |

I am sorry to hear your difficulties with your new wheels. And I also sorry to say that I prefer AG M510 to M5 reps. We are different.
This morning I've got my wheels and I like them very much. I may not will paint them gun metal. I just want to give it a try. Satin silver with black sapphire. But I still have to wait one and half a week. |

I like the new wheels better.... When you say left rear wheel had the issue, is that the driver's side? My driver side rear wheel also seems like it was bored 1/2mm too small. Total PITA to get on and off. But mine are Forgestar so it would be unrelated.

I'm beginning to like the M510s better than the M5 reps after a few days of seeing the car....they are growing on me. Yes, it was on the driver's side (US driver's side) rear. I'm guessing it's just a coincidence that you had the same problem, can't imagine it would be the BMW hub is flawed...the OEM wheels and the M5 reps went on and off without a hitch. I'm really dreading having to remove it in the winter, I know it's going to be a bear get off. |

No, the warranty on everything else is still intact, it just means that BMW won't warrant the springs...since they are no longer BMW springs...and they MIGHT not cover related suspension components, such as a shock...but that's only if they can reasonably link the cause of a defect in the shock (or other component) to the non-OEM spring. I'm not worried about it. Not likely to be an issue...and if there are any issues, the worst case scenario is I have to pay for a shock.

Very nice wheels. I think they will even better after you paint the barrel.
Why don't you return/exchange the offending wheel?

both rims look nice, i'm sure you'll get used to the AG. man, your car looks so clean with the reflectors, kidneys, brake (and i assume debadge). congrats.
Quick question - how's it going with the H/R springs on the adaptive suspension?

I think that's a strange coincidence. Next weekend I plan on rebleeding my brakes and I'll put my passenger side rear wheel on the driver's side to check.
