I saved about $100 over the dealer cost in Orlando. They charge about $125 for Oil and Filter change, so in theory I saved $100 doing it myself. I paid about 25$ to ship the oil back and FCP euro refunding my upfront cost.

Interesting... sold at Walmart?
UPDATED MARCH 2020:
The LL-01 designation was recently removed from Castrol European Formula only because they stopped paying a licensing fee to BMW. Same oil so I continue to use it!

Simplest & cheapest BMW oil solution is to go to Walmart and buy Castrol Edge SAE 0W-40. Make sure that it says "European Formula" on the front. On the back in tiny print it says that meets the "BMW Longlife-01" specification which is what you want. Please see attached photos.

Walmart sells 5 quart jugs for $25.xx and single quarts for $8.xx The manual for my 2015 335i xDrive N55 engine says to use 6.9 quarts of one of the following: 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
Hope this helps!

False! But nice try! Simplest and cheapest is running liquimoly or Pentosin from fcp Euro and returning your used motor oil and filter in a prepaid box and for 18 bucks you can refill and replace indefinitely.

I'm running Liqui Moly 5w-30 in my B46 at just under 48k miles in fairly temperate weather. Got it with FCP Euro's oil change kit. The motor sounds a tiny bit less diesel-y with no impact on gas mileage. However maybe I'm going crazy but the turbo seems to spool slower than with the OEM 0w-20. That would make sense to me, seeing as it's slightly more viscous. Otherwise I'm very very happy with this oil. I'll report back in a couple of months with a UOA.

Let us know what your impressions are!

Liqui Moly SAE 5w40 every five thousand miles. Worth the extra few dollars for me. Buy two or three 5L jugs at a time on eBay.

Talked to a bunch of Germans and European enthusiasts here. They all said Liqui Moly is not as good as it used to be and everybody hypes it.

Why are you all wasting your money on that?

110,000 miles on my N55 engine which has been tracked a LOT.

OCI every 5k miles with Castrol Edge 0w-40 from Walmart at $25/5quarts. Done.

It's in my iDrive too, 2 MPG better gas mileage after going from BMW oil to Liqui Moly Molygen plus Ceratec. I haven't noticed any change in the engine sound or smoothness or anything else, and I wasn't expecting better mileage, but I doubt that my dashboard readout is lying to me.

Could you possibly be getting better gas mileage because gas has changed from a winter blend to a summer blend?

I'm very skeptical that you'd see a 2 MPG increase when using the same SAE viscosity engine oil. If it were that easy to get such an increase, BMW would have made that oil the standard and therefore used for the EPA fuel economy tests.

You could easily see a 2 MPG increase from a variety of factors on a typical drive.

And you're certain that the engine wouldn't have lasted 420k miles with any other engine oil?

No just saying liquimoly is a great oil. I like the castrol 0-40 as well.

I changed to Liqui Moly a year ago. I noticed the mileage increase in July. It's remained steady since then, including through the winter.

So what you're telling me is that on a car like mine - a 2014 335i RWD 8SAT which has a combined fuel economy of 25 MPG according to the EPA, I'm going to see an improvement of 2 MPG simply from motor oil? I'm basically going to see a 8% improvement in fuel economy.

Does that pass the common sense test? If BMW could get an 8% improvement in fuel economy from a minor change in motor oil, why even bother with tech like direct injection. Just make Liqui Moly the factory fill and the specification all other motor oils have to meet.

Or is more plausible that some other variable other than engine oil is resulting in your 2MPG gain? Is it possible it could even be psychological - self fulfilling prophecy? "I just changed engine oils. I'm going to see if this results in improved fuel economy." And you subsequently drive more conservatively than you did with the other motor oil because now you're actually paying attention.

For me, its about $8 more expensive per oil change to use the Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5W-40.

At four changes a year (20k) thats about $32 total. When I think about all the studid shit I waste money on throughout an entire year... this becomes a no brainer.

Also... I love the fact that my LM containers are the perfect quantity for my engine (5L) and dont leave me short like stuff you find at your local Walmart, AutoZone, etc.

To the contrary...

My last oil of choice (about 4 changes ago and back) is looking like the BEST overall value on the market. Being the factory fill for countless high end vehicles.

Can be had for under $25 with tax for a 5qt jug. Leaves you a touch short though.

Walmart in my area charges a bit over $27 for that 5-qt. jug of Castrol 0W-40 w/ LL-01.

What do you folks think about this analysis on motor oil?

https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/201...-test-ranking/

by 540ratblog. Seems like an impartial and factual analysis...unless someone has any info if this guy has been bought out or is shady?

Very interesting. I'd be interested in seeing how Leichtlauf and Molygen perform against the Amazon Basics.
