N26 vs n20 exhaust difference?

Hello there , i have 328i 2016 with n26 engine, as I understand they difference in emissions primarily exhaust components, whats the difference between them and can i make my n26 engines exhaust like n20 ones by removing an extra cat? My friend has n20 engine and i feel like his cars exhaust sound a bit better, btw am running a muffler delete and still isn't any difference then with muffler

There is no muffler difference between the N20 to N26. What you are hearing is the N26 downpipe 900 cell cat vs 600 cell in the n20 downpipe and N26 secondary 400 cell cat behind the downpipe, before the resonator. Change your downpipe and delete the secondary cat and you will get louder sound.

There absolutely is an exhaust difference. The downpipe mounting is different, downpipes are different, and the N26 has the secondary cat.

Don't forget the hanger for the midpipe is different.

Can i just remove the secondary cat? Will it negatively affect the engine and performance In any way ?

I should have been more specific. There is no difference in the muffler. I clearly explained the differences in the exhaust system from the DP and secondary cat. I've edited my original post.

Yes, you can just delete it. Make sure to use a mandrel oval pipe and then oval to round pipe as pictured. If you just use a cheap bent pipe you will restrict the exhaust airflow.

I noticed a significant difference deleting the secondary cat on my N26 with original muffler versus changing the downpipe from stock to ER catted 200 cell downpipe.

THE BIGGEST SOUND/PERFOMANCE DIFFERENCE WILL COME FROM A C*****S DP ON THIS ENGINE.

Most of the above posts are correct. The N26 has 2 cats.

The first one has a different fitment to the midpipe as opposed to the n20 (so dont buy a n20 DP thinking itll fit n26, vis versa)

The 2nd cat is oddly shaped and the mid-pipe itself is oval...not circular, so your shop will have to make a custom pipe to fit that section...which is a headache unless they've done it before or highly skilled. Not completely worth it IMO.

**GREENF30N26 has the best looking 2nd cat delete ive seen.**

Lastly you have the resonator and muffler which is the same in n20/26. & i honestly wouldnt touch the resonators (run the risk of sounding tooooo raspy)

DP and Muffler delete might be the best sounding option for the n26....unless you go for full aftermarket of course.
