Recall for ECU update from BMW 2019 Feb.
After the call per letter, the car software was updated. New software version f20-18-11-551.
Car = 340i lci 2018 standard in Denmark Experience: All personal settings back to 0. Gear shift has become slightly softer in Comfort mode. Power and acceleration is about the same. Can't feel the difference. Sound in sports and sports + is significantly diminished Still a little bubbly and sporty.) But no bang and many bubbles. I'm not happy they have deprived me of anything the car had. Hope it will come back. Such was the car also at 0-1000 km. So hope it will come back later Carly Coding cannot access FEM Area after encoding !!! but well other ECU areas. What is your experience? Last edited by Stampe; 02-24-2019 at 09:02 AM.. |

I wonder if the sport mode sound and the gear shift point is just the adaptation being reset. Probably be back to normal after driving for a bit.

Not sure we need so many threads on the same topic:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1574409 https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1575644 I have been following this topic ever since someone in the german community informed about the update (beginning of the year). To sum up: 90% don't notice any difference whatsover after updating (except the RPM limitter when stationary, which is what the update is all about). There are 2-3 users (including yourself) who claim that the car has gone more silent in Sport (mainly in combination with MPPSK). There is 1 user (with MPPSK) who claims the car has become much noisier in terms of burbles and gunshots, which became easier to reproduce. I also got a letter but not in any rush to get it. Whenever next maintenance is done. (The update is neither mandatory, nor time-limtied) P.s. To not lose your personal settings every time an update is performed, save your profile online through ConnectedDrive or export to USB-stick.

Go to driver profiles in Settings and click on your profile. You will see the export options.

I had mine updated last week. I have the MPPSK- no change in sound- still loud with burbles and pops as before. It did wipe out my personal settings and had to reset.

I had mine updated last week as well
2018 340XI 6 speed, no MPPSK, I cant tell a difference in anything My stock exhaust, although not as loud as the performance one, still cracks and pops and I can get some gunshots in the higher RPM range.

Check the other threads. The Service Bulletin is attached there. It includes effectivity.

Had my 2018 340i B58M serviced and reprogrammed a few days ago. Comfort mode does seem to have softer shifts as does eco mode. I’m more interested in performance so haven’t really noticed any change in the burps, bubbles, pops.... I typically drive in Sport mode, with occasional 100 octane.
I love my 340i [:^) |

Taking my ‘17 340i MPPSK in for oil change and “vehicle check” next week. Will inquire about the update. The car was manufactured late ‘16.
In mid January I had the dealer install the M Perf brakes. A few days later I noticed that the sounds the car makes - the chimes and beeps - were different. Nicer, lower in tone. E.g. on a long trip after 3 or 4 hours the car chimes “Places to stop?” Or when the temp is lower than 37F you get the warning. These sounds are now much nicer. I wondered if the dealer updated iDrive or something. If they did, it wasn’t on the print-out of work done. I don’t think iDrive can update itself over the air. I’ll start asking up front what they intend to do. |

The effect appears to be very individual. Some users report the opposite.
Most report no difference whatsoever.

It’s possible the dealership updated the car while I had it in to get the M-perf brakes installed, but in that case, I cannot tell any difference. |
