Cool Bye bye chrome ! Brushed chrome OEM exhaust tips !

Hate the chrome tips. Getting some aftermarket tips in a few weeks and decided to give them a brushed look in the meantime.

Will post pics on the car later. Not even sure if it'll make a visible difference lol

I'm wondering if you would need to clear coat them afterwards? Otherwise road dirt/grit may impregnate the metal, would be difficult to clean. But seeing as you are only leaving them on for a few weeks it's not going to matter, good effect though

Don't think there is any clear coat on them to be honest. They are so exposed to dirt and grime that it would get ripped away in no time. The metal was already "impregnated" by surface stains that I couldn't remove with soap and water. They vanished after the brushing though...

Sandpaper I had lying around my garage. Pretty rough stuff to make the process faster. People had recommended using the rough side of a dishwashing sponge but that wasn't getting my the finish I wanted.

Basically held the tip with sand paper wrapped around it in one hand and used the other hand to continuously and quickly make the tip spin inside it. I don't know if that's a clear explanation but that's how I got those scuffs in nice and uniform.

Edit: The green "sponge" in the first picture is what I started using but it was too fine so I switched to sandpaper.

And as you can see in the first picture the top "slanted" part of the exhaust is still mostly polished because that was the part I was holding with my free hand to make it rotate in the sandpaper.
