Bimmerworld delrin rear subframe bushings - wow

Hi all-

I have seen many post of F30 rear subframe bushing upgrades. I just got the bimmerworld delrin and aluminum version installed while i was getting a wavetrac put in.

And..... wow. This is hands down the best thing ive done to the car. The vagueness is gone and the car holds the road with such a confidence inspiring feel.

Yes, you need to drop the subframe. Yes, its a total bitch. Yes, its so worth it.

Taking it a little easy on the wavetrac for a few miles and then ill have thoughts on that.

Have you noticed any downsides, i.e. less roll in the rear of the body = understeer ?

No, not at all. I have the stock rsb. The suspension components are there to do their job and provide the compliance needed but now the slop of uncontrolled subfram movement is gone.

What many folks dont realize is that as the subframe squishes and flexes all around it changes your alignment configuration.

I couldnt be more pleased

Similar results here. I think there is a little more noise transmitted from the drivetrain/wheels but it's worth it.

It also accents the weaknesses of the differential bushings IMO. Once I get my vibration figured out, I am considering a diff lockdown kit or the diff bushing inserts.

Edit: I still get a bit of axle hop when I try to leave hard from a dead stop - which is what I mean about the diff bushings.

Theyre delrin on the outside and aluminum inside. About 300 for the bushings and i paid 5 hours labor to drop the rear subframe to install., so its 800-1000 to do. I can say that for me, its easily worth that much - no question.

How do you know that the uncertainty from the rear end wasn't fixed by the LSD?

Fair point for sure. However, ive been taking it a bit easy on the throttle to give the diff a bit of running in. The stability is there regardless on throttle input-on throttle, off throttle, maintenance throttle, so I attribute the improvement in stability to the bushings. But, yea, youre right in that i dont know for sure.

What i do know is that i am thrilled with the car now and my "wolf in sheep's clothing" is basically complete now.

I have the M Performance LSD but not the solid subframe bushings. I'm looking to have the solid subframe bushings in before next track season.

Since the subframe has to be dropped and I have 120k miles on the car, I'll probably replace the rear differential bushings at the same time.

Same boat almost. Lsd and a poly diff mount insert.

How far does the subframe have to be dropped?

I was browsing Millway's site and came upon these installation instructions for this:

depends what tool is being used to remove/install. i dropped mine about 10" to put the new ones in. I burned the old ones out because that's what they deserved.

The only issue with delrin is that it doesn't have the elasticity that poly has, so if they deform/crack in any way, they can lose their original shape and allow movement...this is a rare but possible occurence. I have delrin in my subframe and so far so good. Car feels planted and I can power out of corners earlier. If you care about that, then this mod is very much worth doing. Note, that this is not a job for the faint of heart.

thinking of picking up the whiteline poly subframe bushings, only $160, same part number as what i used in my e82. i also only dropped mine like 6" and heated up the bushings and used the weight of the car and a 24 or 26mm socket to push out the old bushings. lubed up the whiteline 2 piece and slid them in. and i agree one of the best mods i did on my e82.
