Help, rattle/vibration between 800-1000rpm.
In P/N/D, revving past 800-1000rpm, I encountered vibration from engine to steering wheel. When the rpm drop down to 1000-800rpm, i felt it too.
So far I remove decaf stock downpipe and Ensure nothing is touching the downpipe. So far replaced o2 sensors, belt tensioner, crank pulley and did not help. Car drive fine, what else could be wrong? |

I have a similar light chatter sound that only shows up after a complete warm up of the engine oil to near the F245 to 250 (center of the oil temp guage). If not completely warm up there is NO sound at that RPM. I thought I was rid of the sound when I changed oil to Castrol Edge euro 0W-40 rather than the thinned out BMW approved 0W-30 oil, but after the Castrol had about 4000 miles on it the chatter returned..?? I do remember that about a year ago when I was still using the 5W-30 BMW previously recommended oil I had no sound at that RPM ?
HELP If anyone knows what this is? I don't want to throw money at such a small little sound that does not come until the temp when the oil would be somewhat thinner. I considered that it might be cam chain slack due to lower oil pressure, but it is totally quiet at true idle. 73K presently and runs perfect - never any CEL lights. DanielW |

DanielW 2014 435i at 73K miles and still have the tiny rattle sound
Lefthander ? did you ever get a solution to your chatter sound. Mine is still no worst but still there. I did do the AC pressure line weight for the (OTHER rattle at abt. 2500 rpm while accelerating) that has been talked about). That one totally went away , but not the small chatter passing up or down past 1000 rpm, which I talked about earlier in this post. Today's date is 03/08/2019. Someone help please. It is much quieter with the 5W-40 Castrol LL01 engine oil. Could I have a weak spring in the timing chain tensioner? Or PO might have let oil go too long and oil caked onto the tensioner bore ?? Any ideas would be appreciated

Does it have headsup display? If so could be coming from that unit

800-1000 rpm chatter, very quiet small sound
My 2014 435i does not have a heads-up unit. Don't think those came out until later years ? thanks however--- I thought no one was even reading this post.
Still hoping someone knows what causes this. I'm ready to try replacing the cam chain tensioner, since the chatter sounds only when the oil temp is near the top center (250 F) (not overheated), but fully warmed up. I've never EVER had any CEL lights or any abnormal engine sounds. DanielW |

Saw your reply late, I found the root cause. It was caused by the flex joint of the original downpipe. I replaced with another catless downpipe and problem solved.

Thanks Lefthander I had just given-up. and still have the issue
Light rattle or buss sound is still present now at 900-1100 rpm, at 84K. I just stopped posting and continued to drive and enjoy my 435i N55. Now, I finally looked again at this post. Thank you so much for your kind post. I will get under there and check out my exhaust and that area.
You are the "MAN". Some hope again to stop this rattle on an otherwise perfect BMW. My 7th BMW, since (first was 1979 320i, which I drove 23 years and 314,000 miles). DanielW, 2014 435i |
