Also I would consider changing this out. are there carplay boxes that have good audio quality? mine sounds a lot worse going through the carplay than it does over bluetooth or aux

Those version number looks too different than the units here, unfortunately I only think Lexxson can help you for updating. does it look like the one that Xradeon posted?

I read somewhere that IOS15 is having issues with carplay.

As far as audio quality, what's your stock system? CCC/CIC/NBT/NBT2-EVO? Check audio settings on the Lexxson unit and see if there's a 'loud' setting, or something like that around where the EQ settings are, you'll want to turn that off. And then make sure your aux volume on your idrive side is at least 15+

that is the unit I have.

I have the CIC in the BMW.
I have messed with the EQ and all of the audio setting that I could find. basically if the audio goes through the carplay box the audio is a lot worse and a lot less bass. adjusting the EQ only causes the audio quality to sound worse. leaving it on flat is the best sound but a night and day difference if I switch over to bluetooth. Until this morning I have just always played the audio over bluetooth if I am going to crank it up. after a fight with the carplay and car and Iphone this morning, I set my phone to forget the bluetooth connection to the car and don't plan on ever connecting again. Without going into much detail I was about ready to through my phone in the car and pour gas all over everything set it on fire and walk away. to keep that urge from coming back I can't connect to bluetooth again. I am also willing to pay the money for a better sounding unit, if there is a difference in sound quality with these devices. thanks for the help.

also it uses this type of harness not the one that connects behind the radio.

Check out the Mr.12Volt unit for CIC. It has the best sound quality.

There is a thread dedicated to those units somewhere on this forum.

I have installed this box correctly into a 2016 F30. The vehicle has NBT Evo running id4. However when running the vehicle, at random times when vehicle has been turned on and off and on the screen goes black not allowing Andream or ID4 to work. I have to either hold volume button to force reset or turn vehicle off and on. 7/10 times MMI works fine and consistently. The other 3/10 times there is this issue where MMI turns on and just goes black. Has any one got a solution? I've checked connections and everything is fine.

I had installed the v2.0.B0.mod version, if I wrote the v3.5.0.9.gpe.b version directly, it didn't work it gave me black screen.
then I restarted from scratch ... forced v2.0.B0.mod then v2.2.0.5.gpe.b and finally v3.5.0.9.gpe.b everything started working fine!

first of all, I want to cheer up with you for such a great forum and place to get detailed information about the aftermarket CarPlay MMI Boxes! great job!

I just purchased an ANDREAM EW-BMCP-NBT04X box and it works well so far.

Now I checked my versions:

SDK Version: 25.0.0.7.0.0.2.0
CUST Version: B2_V1.5.10
MCU Version: 21.6.7.116
HW Version: BMW_NBT2_1_G

I am wondering as I have apparently another version as listed on page 1 of this thread.

My CUST Version: B2_V1.5.10
Listed on page 1: B2_V1.5.9 and as next one B2_V1.6.2

My MCU Version: MCU 21.6.7.116
Listed on page 1: MCU 21.10.22.16 and MCU 21.09.13.122

So I am confused, if there are other versions in between the latest one, as I should not jump to the latest versions, right?

Maybe someone could clarify this for me?

You can jump to the latest version directly if you use the ispbooot.bin file instead of the gemini_pack.bin.

The ispbooot.bin will flash all partitions. The gemini_pack.bin will only update some of the partitions.

If your F30 car has an 8" OEM touchscreen, does the touch-capability work while the display is in the MMI menu mode? I.e. is the MMI using the OEM touch-signals via CANBUS when you are in the MMI GUI to interact with the MMI menu?

Currently it does not. But I've seen a video of a shop in Australia that was able to make the touchscreen work with the mmi.

Dose anyone have information on what the factory options do?

I just managed to get into mine fore the first time. not sure of some should be changed. I did find a DSP one, but can not tell a difference in audio with it on or off. I was hoping it would help with my crappy audio issue. here are some screen shots of mine.

I installed a Roadtop. Everything works perfectly, unfortunately the sound quality (harman kardon) via aux is not as good as via bluetooth. i can hear two music via bluetooth but unfortunately i can't use siri and the navigation. is there a solution to this?

you can adjust the aux vol and the mmi vol to see what works best for you but i gave up as the oem bt was far superior quality.

i never use siri or voice nav, so was no big deal for me.

How do you setup a bench test for the Andream style MMI? I got my used Pangolin MMI (Andream clone) in and want to test it out if works before tearing my HU out again.

Blank screen so far. I supplied power to pin 15 (12V) on the Quadlock and connected ground to pin 12 (GND) on the Quadlock. Then connected the 6-pin LVDS cable from the MMI's LVDS-OUT port to my old 6.5" OEM monitor. Set toggle-switches to 11000000 for 6.5" resolution for NBT. Tried also 00010000 for CIC. I plugged a mouse into the USB, but I figured that none of the menu can be used anyway without the car's actual CAN signal resent(?) Does the MMI need to be plugged in to the car's harness and/or the HU's LVDS cable to the MMI's LVDS-IN to even boot up?

EDIT: looks like this setup is using the ZGW as well in the bench test. Is that really needed? Anyway, easier just to tear out my HU again. But there is no room for the quadlocks behind a full-size NBT HU so I will need to take out the glove compartment and stash all the things in that space to the right of the HU.

How would one use Android Auto and still be able to stream music over BT? As soon as my phone connects to AA I am not able to play music via BT anymore. All sounds are routing straight to AA, even though I'm connected to my cars BT.

Just installed the RoadTop into my F82 M4 with NBT EVO and all appears to be working well. My current versions are:

SDK: 25.0.0.7.0.0.2.0
CUST: ER160
MCU: 21.3.22.20

Does anyone have a changelog for the newer versions listed on the 1st page (ER162 & MCU 21.6.12.117) so I can know whether it's worth doing an update at this point?
