thought i'd re post your reply here away from the 403m wheel thread. are they these ones from the same supplier 'cortse'? showing £20.16 delivered... look to be 6000k. 500k down from previous 6500k gen, LED drl's so should be whiter... 25w v's 10w but only 100 lumens up from 650 to 750? i think the cree leds will be much brighter than that. if they are brighter i'll more than likely get a set. as they are still pretty cheap.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3609424078...84.m1423.l2649 |

That's the ones Dave. Cortse has been chasing a pure white Samsung LED for me as the spare set I purchased were more purple than the first set. He's sending me both the new samsung pure white and the Cree aswell. Before the new Samsung had arrived with him he said the Cree were a lot brighter and could send me those instead, but will have to see when they arrive. He said they're exactly the same fitting but 25w instead of 24w I'll let you know as soon as they land..

Once I fit the Cree DRLs and I've run them error free for a while I'll take a look.

Dave
Below is the New Pure White Samsung(Top) v Cree The New Samsung seems brighter than the original batch and definitely brighter than the 25 W "Cree" which I don't fully understand. The Cree model has less LED's in total though which is evident from the listing pictures but the quoted power output if correct obviously doesn't resemble my findings..

i expected the cree leds to be much brighter, some of the H8 cree bulbs are bright enough to drive around at night with! so why do they have so much trouble with DRL's...? |

just to resurrect this old thread.
i bought a pair of these on a whim, they look significantly brighter than my previous led DRL's and are more noticeable from a distance as they have a larger lighting 'surface'. they actually produce a beam of light from the reflector similar to the oem filament bulbs. they do look yellow-y in the headlamp when the car is not running. but when driving either your drls are on, or the low beams are so bright they wash them out with light... (edit) just noticed the cheeky scrote has a pic of my car in his ebay listing with my old drl's! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3612510033...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT they also do a H7 version which i'm thinking of getting, either for the main beam's if they are too bright..hmmm seems unlikely... or low beams if they are bright enough. they are 'specced' at 3800 lumens which is much higher than 1800 lumens of a standard halogen...that is if they do produce that much 'useable' light. what i'm hoping for is something that is a little brighter than a standard 'yellow' halogen, but with a crisp white light. without losing the brightness by having a blue bulb to filter out the yellow wavelength as my mtec 'super white' 4350k bulbs do. as they are not as powerful as standard yellow halogens. i seriously doubt the LED's will have an output of light anything like hid's.... and as the end of the LED H7 bulb is shielded and not lit, the same as the end of a halogen lamp. so it should spread the light only in the reflector, and not dazzle like the HID conversion kits, open un-shielded ends do... |

and i bought a set of the cree ones to try but thought they weren't as bright as the samsungs. to be fair the samsung leds themselves are still bright, but it's small points of light that isn't so visible from a distance imo. this one looks to my eyes brighter and whiter, and as it illuminates a larger surface area is more visible. what it actually needs is a perspex diffuser in front of the bulb to be illuminated. that would look like all the standard LED DRL's. think we have a lux meter somewhere at work, would be good to get some readings.... but then there is no reason BMW couldn't have put LED angel eye DRL's on halogen headlights. or even better made xenon standard, like skoda and just about every other car maker... What made you try these particular LEDs?? Have you tried a few others?...like you the Cree lights went back in the garage as they are definitely not as bright as the Samsung. I can't see your car on the listing you provided the link for?

we had samples of lots of different LED types, including cree and the COB type as use in the new DRL bulbs i bought, the COB type what is now used to replace all our exterior lighting from 50w 2D flourescent lamps to 500w halgen arc lamps. they are very bright, and so far reliable too. and not as prone to burning out the led drivers as cree type lamps. i was very impressed by them. as for the ebay link if you scroll to the right on the images, the corner of my car is there complete with my neighbours side wall. and i think either teastons car or another similar estoril blue car is too |
