Ok Matt Willis fan boy. Yeah I admit the gear box took a little getting used to and I appreciate the advice from all the other participants in this forum. I have adhered to their advice and my driving experience has increased accordingly.

If you had read my post properly you would have noticed that the engine would stop and start with my foot still on the brake. So today it went to BMW bluebell where a solenoid was diagnosed as being faulty.

So I suggest if you're going to get offended by newbs like me asking for advice you should refrain from chipping in and getting emotional. Just remember no one insisted on your opinion, you volunteered.

Kind regards

I can't believe this thread is still going. It should have been the shortest ever.

Just get in, put it in drive and go. Don't touch it again until you're ready to park up.

Nickname from 15 years ago, what can i say. You're a big lad throwing stones when you can't even work an automatic gearbox out

The issue i have isnt the question, its your dismissive response to what people are telling you when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about

Enjoy your car

Yes that's why with auto hold your brake lights are on as well, I cannot imagine being on the A1 in dense traffic on the end of a queue/tailback sat there without your brake lights on and decent distance from the car in front...

The fact that some people think it's sensible to sit there in neutral with no brakes on is mind boggling.....

Very valid point, if I'd done that when some bell-end in a 130i decided to plow into the back of my 335D Touring while I was in a stationary queue, there would have been a three car pile-up instead of two!

Indeed and I had a similar incident in mind when I posted that, a van went into the back of me at 40mph+ on the A1 despite me leaving a good gap at the back of the queue and having my brakes on I still got punted 30 feet down the road into the other car, had I been in neutral without brakes God knows what would have happened.

And yet the OP thinks it's a good thing to do...

The OP hasn't stated that at all.

Not all cars on the A1 are stationary.
Not all stationary cars are on the A1.

It's utterly piss poor practice and shouldn't be done, whether at the lights in town or on the A1.....

As for your attempt at some kind of clever statement...Fail (must try harder) as I was responding to another poster on the thread....

You posting on it when you should actually be telling us what the new car is you're getting.

I've only just discovered it just now. Read the whole thing, it just kept giving

I'm now off to test if I can select neutral whilst reversing into a car wash with stop-start active, my door open and seat belt off. All whilst eating a jacket potato and listening to Busted covering an East 17 song. Did I miss anything?
