But if you do it all at once, you are setting yourself up for some hurt!

I would recommend a 200 calorie per day increase and just watch the scale. After you see it stop moving for a week or two, add another 200 calories and start again.

Your body loves homeostasis and will fight you every bit of the way, so you have to "trick" it and let it slowly adapt. I know people including myself want it now.... but it's slow and steady and most of all consistency that wins in this type of stuff.

Plus you want to keep healthy while doing it!

An old allegory ...

A horse and a poisonous scorpion were standing at the bank of a river and both wanted to cross the river. Only the horse could swim across the river and the scorpion asked if he could hitch a ride. The horse said yes, but on the condition that the scorpion would promise that he would note bite the horse. The scorpion agreed and promised not to bite.

So the horse let the scorpion climbed up to the back of the horse and the horse then swam across the river. After the horse got through the river, the scorpion before jumping off the horse, he bit the horse.
