Sorry Coby with a B. Cobywheel.com

He only works with alcantara but check out his F30 wheel it looks very nice and it's $200 plus a little if you want stripes. Not sure on extra for m stitching vs one color etc.

You can either send your wheel in or do a core exchange.

Thanks for the reference, just sent them an email. $200 is a steal as if I bought the $50 kit that OP installed I'd most definitely mess it up and waste a lot of time.

Was thinking the same thing. I'd rather spend $200 for something good than $50 on something I fuck up and throw in the trash.

I did my wheel a couple of weeks ago, the sportline steering wheel, not m-sport, it has flaps wich cover the leather that is above the buttons on the sides of the wheel, these came loose after a couple of days using the adhesive strips that came with it, i cleaned the whole wheel thoroughly before application, so it seems that it is the adhesive that is not sticky enough.

is there some kind of glue or tape i could use to hold these flaps down without damaging the original leather?

thanks in advance!

I used regular super glue (CA i.e. cyanoacrylate) to secure the tips and edges to the plastic. Works really well BUT be extra careful to not get CA stains anywhere on the visible surfaces. Though if you do, 100% pure acetone is the magic antidote to clear those (but must be used very conservatively since it can discolour).

just bought one of these, any chance i can avoid using the double sided tape?

after a few years, i can see the tape ruining the leather beneath..

I did this a few months ago. Went with the suede/alcantara feel, with red stripe and red stitching on my 335i Sportline. I actually took the steering wheel off and removed all the trim to try to get everything tucked as well as I could. I think the relatively easy process of removing the wheel is worth the ease of access when trying to stitch in the awkward areas. Also, little hack I did, the edges of the flaps that you tuck are folded over and glued, I pulled them apart for a little more area to work with and a flatter profile to tuck under the trim.

It's not absolutely perfect, but worth it IMO compared to spending $800 on the M Performance alcantara wheel (although, the flat bottom on that is pretty sweet). The added wheel thickness (a sore point for me on the std sport line wheel) and the alcantara grip/feel are huge advantages for me. And for about $50-70 and a few hours of time, well worth it!

(2 photos are BMW stock photos of std sportline wheel and the M Performance Alcantara wheel...~$800 and my pics aren't really in the order I intended but I can't figure out how to change it in the mobile app. Sorry!

Great job!

Btw I went back and did a second pass to smooth out my edges. Still not perfect, but better than before. This pic should give you an idea. The ridges on the right side are actually due to bumps on the wheel surface below. x328x hope this helps with your OCD

In response to a request for closeups on what I meant when I said it wasn't absolutely perfect:

That’s unacceptable for me. The leather has to fit tight on there or it will look shitty.

I ended up getting one with red stitching to match the sport line!

As a perfectionist I invested quite some time in this thing, but there is still some minor flaws, i might fix them when i have the time

Just got mine today in the all suede light gray thread. My interior is saddle brown and I figured it best to go with neutral colors.

EDIT: I am currently in the process of installing this and YOU DO NOT need to remove the airbag and buttons to get a perfect result. I'm about half way through and its perfect no wrinkles. The secret is to push all the access slack around the wheel into the parts where you need to tuck(around the buttons and at the 6 o clock position). Also do not start to apply the tape before hand. Apply tape as you fit and finesse the cover into place. Start at the 12:00 position and sew from that point 12 to 9 and then 12-3. This way you can push all the excess slack into the parts where you need to tuck. Repeat for the bottom half of wheel.

How has this held up over the last few months? Especially the suede?

I have one ready to install, but I'm wondering if I should order an all leather version.
