Car Feels Like is Hesistating

Hi

I have an F36 430D 2015 purchased as an AUC about 6 months ago so I have a warranty on it for another 6 months.

About 4 days ago, I noticed the car felt like it was hesitating a little at cruise. If I plant my foot the power feels the same as it was but if I am cruising around in 8th gear on the motorway, it feels like the car is resisting a little.

I noticed my MPG seems to have dropped a little too, reset the trip and even on a 70mph cruise it was only doing 42mpg where as it was closer to 50mpg beforehand.

The auto gear changes seem more jerky too, more so when shifting down so if I am slowing down to a roundabout slowly, it feels like the car is jerking on most downshifts, it happens on upshifts but only when I accelerate slowly, if I boot it then it seems ok.

No iDrive warnings at all but I am going to try and use ISTA-D to see if there are any codes later today.

Plan to book it into the dealer but I need a car so will have to wait until they have a loan car available.

Unsure what it could be. My other half drove it and even she thought something wasn't right.

There's potentially a long list of things to consider/investigate :

Engine :
MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.
MAP (Mass Air Pressure) sensor.
EGR valve (sooting / sticking).
DPF.
Injector fouling.
Turbo actuator.
Turbo general health (although unlikely to be a problem at your car's mileage).
Remove the oil filler cap while the engine is running and check for heavy breathing (piston rings blow-by) when the engine is cold and when it's at full operating temperature.

An OBD reader and suitable App (i.e. Carly) can be helpful here to identify any fault codes.

I'd add a quality intensive injector, DPF and turbo cleaning agent the next time you fill up (Archoil AR6400 D-Max or similar) and make sure you give the car plenty of motorway runs and (once the engine fluids are at full operating temperature) some sustained and repeated full throttle acceleration runs to clear out the fuelling, exhaust and boost systems. It won't clean the EGR valve or inlet manifold, but

Transmission :
Leaking/sticking solenoids.
Fluid and pan/filter.
If you have a means of pulling the pressures and the quick charge times it can help a transmission specialist to understand some aspects of the general health of the 'box. They can. of course, read these values for you if your travel to them.

I've recently had the ZF 8HP70 in my car fully rebuilt and the issues relating to poor shifting were almost certainly due to leaking solenoids.

Nothing of value from the fault code reading, see attached images.

I cleared these codes as they are likely old but I dont see how any of them relate to the issue I am having.

Googling the battery error suggests its likely nothing to worry about

May just book it in with the dealer.

Its still doing it so I booked it into the dealer on Thursday.

It feels like the car is being strangled somehow, like something is being restricted but not hugely so its causing an issue but its mainly noticeable when the car shifts (jerky), when I slow down to a stop and the engine braking kicks in, it feels more aggressive than it should.

Have to see what the dealer says, hopefully its nothing major.

Ive noticed its also spinning its rear wheels more since the hesitation started, like I only have to be on a slight incline and put a little too much throttle on and the rear wheels spin up a little, the engine revs hard but the car doesn't move forward. Happened today and once yesterday, never noticed that before the hesitation started.

Am I being daft here but if it's on 65k why do the screenshots show 104k etc?

My car felt like yours until I got the gearbox serviced (at 120k ish).

But with a warranty I wouldn't go spending any of my own money just yet...

Ista tends to display everything in KM.

When they internationalised ISTA, it looks like they language translated the label to 'Mileage' but kept the figures as KM. The car itself reports in KM.

Just word of warning via one of the lads on Pistonheads re warranty…

He declared to the dealer he’d read the codes himself and got nowhere & that’s why they booked it in… They wouldn’t work on his car on the warranty cover due to him reading his own codes…!

Not saying that every dealer will do that, but worth keeping it in mind…

Fingers crossed they get the issue sorted for you

Interesting! Could they tell he had scanned it or based that decision purely on him telling the dealer he'd connected an OBD reader?

I know on some Bimmers the ECUs will flag OBD connections in between services as "Controller manipulation", but I don't know what age cars they introduced that. Hopefully not in 2015

Just him being too honest and telling them. They can tell if the ECUs been messed with. But re code readers etc, don’t think that registers.

I’ve never had any issues thankfully

Yeah it's best to keep quiet and plead ignorance You're not allowed to work on your own property it seems.
