Enhanced Bluetooth & Smarthphone Integration - Good Value?

BMW offers this upgrade on a 4 series GC for $500. Other than being able to play music from my iPhone via bluetooth is there really any other benefit?

The BMW description is so general it makes me think this is just fluff.

1. My guess is someone can code this to turn it on if not purchased, correct?
2. If you don't pay for the upgrade does the car still have the 2nd mic, just not functional?

Any input is appreciated...AJ

Is this option required to send destinations to the Nav from an iPhone or Google Maps?

The Gran Coupe is a 2015 model and audio streaming over BT is now standard on 2015 models.

I thought bluetooth audio streaming was implemented for the 2014s as well...? Standard? What DOES the enhanced give you still?

Thanks for the link.
The only real-world benefits for me are the ability to pair 2 phones, the dual microphones, and the ability to scroll through the library/playlists over Bluetooth. They had me sold when the option lets me pair both of my iPhones.

I'm actually thinking about removing it from my build. I only have one phone, and once my music is on the hard drive, I never use bluetooth for music.

My wife and I each have an iphone and each of them is paired with the car. There has to be more to it than that.

Can the enhanced bluetooth handle two calls at once?

Pretty sure this can all be coded except for the dual microphone part.

Just talked to BMW Genius. The Bluetooth streaming music is standard on all 335/435s. The Enhanced USB and bluetooth saddles you with the stupid snap in holder and makes the center console useless. Getting rid of that is more than enough for me to drop the option.

If it's like the older option (mine is from 2013 and I had it coded in) then you can have both phones paired/connected at once, and you can pick up calls from either phone. If you dial out, it will go out from the 'main' phone.

I think it also gives the "office" stuff like transcribing texts/emails with the apps side but I could be wrong.

It's a terrible value because for the price we pay, and the nearly 0 cost to BMW, it should be included for free.

Had a dispute with BMWNA over this, and I was assured that most BT functionality that currently requires a package, was planned to be standard for MY2016 models. Maybe they were sweet talking me because I was pissed off at the lack of basic functionality, though.

dual microphones and dual phone pairing makes it a must have for me since I am on the road a lot and take a lot of work and personal calls in the car.

The extra mic is key for better audio quality and the dual pairing makes it easy for me to get personal and work calls without having to re-pair

YMMV on this option depending on your personal usage of phones in the car

FA-coding 6NS to the NBT adds all the software features for free.

Therefore, paying $500 would only provide the baseplate and the dual microphones.

It used to be free... but just imagine the opportunity of charging $500 extra per car times 1.5 million a year at $0 cost for you ($0 = free).

Even you would charge it...

I hate that baseplate. Worst thing ever.

I ordered the 6NS $500 option. Now I see I have to order the base plate at $250 to get all the benefits of this option! I see you will not get connection to the external antenna without the base plate. But what about the second microphone- will that function without the base plate? Can anyone tell me how important is connection to external antenna? Also, if I have a protective case around the edge of the iphone, do I have to remove the case for the Iphone to fit into the snap in adapter? Thanks!

My car is 2013 production feb 18. I have option S6NHA. I have bluetooth working so that means i have bluetooth audio as well or that needs to be coded?

The mic should work without the snap-in. The antenna won't, which isn't a big deal unless your area has spotty reception. And yes, any case will have to come off to use the snap-in. If its anything like the iPhone 4 one, its a very tight fit.

I find the external antenna connection made no difference. The biggest difference was changing my cellular network company.

Just to correct this misperception, if you do get the Enhanced Bluetooth option the car will come with a thin baseplate in the center console but does not interfere with or delete the USB port that's in there. You lose a few millimeters of depth in there and that's it.

When I read this last month after placing my order I nearly soiled myself as I keep an iPod touch in my armrest console and the thought of losing that feature made me suicidal. Turns out it's not true.

I have never seen ANY iPhone accessory enable a connection to an external antenna. Regardless of BMW's claim; I simply don't believe there is any implementation of the roof mounted antenna.
