Are these M stripes offensive?

How much does this offend people

I'm not one for slapping M badges on my car, but I really want to take some inspiration from the M4 DTM's side skirt design setup.

My M Performance sill wraps are super worn out, pitted, faded and beginning to stain 9 years later on, shock.

I'm plaining on making some carbon fiber sheets that can stick on just like they do with the DTM.. believe it or not BMW uses 0.3mm carbon sheet (very flexible) stuck on with tape, the only difference is BMW want 1000 euros per side, plus 150 euros for tape on each side

But then comes the M stripe, I really fancy running a small/subtle bit of vinyl above everything, so I photoshopped theirs on but removed the M for 435. Does that offend anyone? I'm open to suggestions for a different colour, when I tried a single block colour it looked too much.

And yes I'm aware the wheel colour isn't great haha, I'm still looking for somewhere to paint them the more subtle shade that I initially had.. the colour really grinds my gears too.

As always to each his own and I personally don't think it looks too bad. Just adding to your brainstorming here but maybe use the 3 colors that designate the true M designation? Starting with the blue rather than red? Maybe add the "i" after 435? I like that it is small. What is the badge above the vent duct? My car came with the M performance side skirt decals. I don't have any M performance parts on the car, but I do like the look, so I have left them on. Good luck with your concept.

Thanks man - great suggestions. I started taking the old vinyl off today however even with heat it's still tearing due to the vinyls age. I was hoping to not have to remove the side skirt extensions as the bodyshop used self tappers which have rusted shut (I'll have to drill them out) it'll be impossible to remove all the vinyl without doing so though.

The badge above the vent is a tiny M, I believe it was one of the first times BMW stuck an M badge on their M Sport models which really peeved a lot of people off haha. Trouble is I had to have the lacquer resprayed on one wing due to a badge stone chip, the bodyshop masked it off so I know for sure I'll lift an edge if I remove it.

Just an FYI for anyone wondering what I took inspo from its this:

I've seen worse. It doesn't look terrible but the M stripes combined with the black vinyl on the side skirt is too much as they clash. Stick with one or the other. I don't think you should add any more M vinyl like pictured in the latter post's picture from the M4. That would be too much.

I think this is on it's own is a nice subtle touch... The other photo where you've taken inspiration from is a bit OTT at that point! Ha

The plan would be to have that strip in carbon fiber, I just need to do it in vinyl first to have a template. I'll be doing it the same was as OEM by using only one layer of fabric in the carbon sheet which will make it as flexible as paper.

The other stripes are far to OTT, even for a special edition M car haha. I remember seeing one in a local car garage and was immediately put off by them.

This would get my vote. Subtle, yet unique and classic. This is what constitutes "elegant, simple, yet expensive" look to me. Esp when you get it done in CF.

Imho, the color striping at the edge of the rocker panel does not look good. It requires continuation across the wheels to the front and to the back. In my eyes it looks out of place if it is like on that M4. They had canards installed upstream of front wheels and that what gives a somewhat of a visual flow to the striping just behind the front wheels. Just my 5c.

I had an old Camaro with a 5" vinyl strip around the entire car. It took me hours and hours to remove it. I had to use an adhesive remover in a few spots to clean it up. I was happy with the results, but my hands and fingers hurt for a few days.

Haha I can only imagine.

That was also my fear with removing the old vinyl, I saw one lad post on instagram who claimed they were stuck on with betalink whoever's car he worked on was doomed to begin with, he tried a toffee wheel to remove the adhesive and burnt the paint.

Luckily the OEM stuff is just printed vinyl wrap, so it comes of fairly clean, the paint underneath is also seeing daylight for the first time it was a dealer spec'd car originally and they had the vinyl stickers done on delivery.

Note to self.. never reuse drill holes for self tappers 11 of the 20 sill extensions dropped out on the driveway, I now owe family cars tyre repairs.

They're never coming off now as I've stuck 9 million rivets on each side haha

If the price was right I’d be interested in a set of the carbon ones or even a template so I could make a set from carbon finish wrap

If you're doing it in wrap then you would be better off using knifeless tape as it's only industrial plotters that can do 2+ meters of material at a time.

I'm actually struggling to source any .3mm carbon plate long enough, the suppliers I usually use are happy to make me a sheet but it'll be hundreds because they can only do square measurements, so 2x2m.

If I can find 2 meter long pieces of cheap glass then I can produce the sheets myself, it's super easy to make as you just sandwich the carbon cloth in between.
