Slight brake judder

Several months ago BMW changed my discs and pads on the front as there was a slight judder when braking which after the chief tech test drove my car he said they will replace.
I wasn't going to accept it being like that as I want it to be perfect and had only owned it for several weeks, well the judder is back and I've probably done around 10k since they were done.
Am I in the right to say to Bmw that they should resolve this as I'm sure discs should not warp so quickly?

Is it shudder or pulsing?

Judder/shudder is normally caused by contaminated disks or pads. IE, crap on them. Or the surface of the disk being damaged.

Warped disks can be checked by driving slowly with the brake slightly on and you would normally feel the pedal rising and falling slightly under your foot.

If you have a warped disk in 10k miles than something is really amiss. Vented discs don't tend to warp like in the old days of solid disk.

Either way, worth getting BMW to look at them and assess.

I only really notice when I'm braking hard tbh
And it feels like a slight judder.

Have you braked very sharply recently? Really sharp braking or long downhill braking can generate a high enough temperature to glaze the pads, and that can cause judder.

I had it on mine, new front discs and pads under warranty. New ones never did it again.

Have you bed the brakes ? Worth doing as it can condition the face of the discs.

Booked it into Bmw for Tuesday for them to have a look. Also while it's there they are looking at the wipers as every time I have the wipers on they clonk on the drivers side which annoys the hell out of me.
Hope the courtesy car is decent

There is no such thing as warped discs! It is pad material transferring to the discs, most likely when holding your foot on the brake sitting at a junction when the brakes are hot.

Car has gone in for investigation and I've been given a frozen white 640d GC. Love the newer speedo pod and the soft close doors.

Not being funny, but if it's only when you brake hard, are you sure it's not the ABS activating?

No 100% not the abs. It definitely feels like the discs

It's a lovely beast. Would be much better as a M sport but still holds the road very well which I was surprised with.

I had a right old game last year with warped/uneven wear on my discs. Went through 3 sets on the front in a matter of 6 months before it was found that my hubs had warped causing my discs to eventually warp or wear unevenly (whay ever you prefer). After replacing the hubs and yet another set of discs all is fine a year on.

Edit: it was only a matter of the hubs running out a few thousands of an inch which was apparently within manufacturing tolerance but was the only thing under suspicion so in desperation I tried it. Thankfully it worked. Not suggesting this is the problem you have but worth considering if you run out of options like I did

Cheers bud that sounds like a very good possibility. Were they all changed under warranty? My last set we changed under warranty and I'm expecting the same this time as 10k on a set of discs isn't acceptable imo

Brake Judder- Lower wishbone bushes worn off

I had a similar issue with my recently brought used 320d last year.
After 4 front brake disc and pad change (3 under warranty) and the 4th done with BMW parts (paid by me), I understood that the issue was originating from worn lower arm bushes. Once they were replaced with the discs, I have done an additional 10k miles with no issues.

Worth a look as these are £70 (set) to replace and do not take much time either.

Apologies for the thread resurrection - I have brake judder and a spongy brake feel on my recently purchased approved used F31 (from a franchised dealer). I'm struggling to get the dealer to recognise this as they seem to send someone around the block on a short test drive and conclude everything is normal.

It's not normal. I have an E90 on which I do all of the servicing myself and the difference between the two when it comes to braking is night and day.

What can I reasonably expect them to do/replace under warranty to fix this?

Karfer11 - did you replace the whole lower arm or just the bushing?
