MPPSK Install - Glad I didn't order the parts myself

I am getting my 340i installed right now with the MPPSK. I was considering ordering the parts online and then bringing them in. Got a good deal so I didn't need to get them online. So glad I didn't go that route because I had no idea just how massive the complete exhaust system was. My service guy asked if I wanted to see the box before they installed. I would have had to borrow a truck and a friend just to drive this to the dealer.

I'm told the exhaust is ready, just waiting on the tune.

Yep, same reason why I didn't get the part separately 😂

You would have to take it out of the box and bring it in. Truth be told makes sense to have it shipped to the dealer, you can't really DIY install it, or you could but you still would need to go in to get the flash tune. I haven't heard of anyone installing it on their own would like to see if anyone did.

No point of doing it yourself. The main (and often time-consuming) work is the software. Have everything done by a qualified workshop.

And yes, I was also not aware how massive the exhaust system replacement is. I thought it'd be just the aft part. I was intending to take the old exhaus back home... until the workshop brought me in to see it

Smile

Dealer got it done and I must say if anyone is on the fence about it and still under warranty, it's totally worth it. Suffice to say it's one of the only street legal options left in California that's still covered by warranty for the 340. I recently asked Dinan support and most of their options are still not approved in California and there's no known date at this point.

I'm waiting for someone to ask me what kind of exhaust it is so I can give them the Cannonball response..

Thanks. Found myself stuck in bumper to bumper L.A. traffic today on the 405. Every few miles, I'd put in into sport in 1st gear and get it up to 4000rpm and let off the gas to keep myself entertained. I don't even mind being "that guy" because the sound is so sweet.

What was the total cost if you dont mind sharing?

Also, the power gain seems to be low compared to a good tune. My dealer quoted around $3,400 including the regular tips and labor. For that amount, I can get M performance exhaust, intake, DP, tune and have a 60-80 whp increase.

Thats my hesitation about getting MPPK and have 35 hp increase only.

Its even worse if you want to take the oem exhaust home to sell on lol.

Luckily my dealer put in on a van and delivered it to my door for free.

BMW4RVR - That's cool that you're dealer went the extra mile. I hear so may complaints about find good dealers for service, that sounds like a keeper.

As far as cost, if you were quoted $3400 parts and labor that sounds like a great price, I paid around $3600 parts/labor/titanium tips. Even with the difference in tax rate (California to Nevada) you got a better price. I should say, he did install my M performance pedals for free on top of that so that would have been an extra $50-85.

I still have a long way to go on my warranty so I don't want to risk non-OEM parts at this point, so for me it was the only option. On top of that, in California with CARBO restrictions and many of the tunes and intakes have disclaimers that state you can only use them for track and not for public use.

I will say that once you hear the MPPSK, you may want to consider it. Most of the videos don't do it justice. If you have the means, Dinan released a stage 1 tune for specifically for the MPPSK that may still be available by vendors (not sold direct by Dinan) and gives you approx 420 HP. So combine that power with the sound, it would be unreal. Even though Dinan has the warranty covered, it's not CARBO approved in California.

Appreciate your reply. My warranty will expire soon, so probably I will go with the tune, DP route for now. Thanks

I think we're glad you went the dealer route as currently there's no way to flash the MPPSK tune without the dealer. I don't think you had a choice here, unless you were looking for just sound. Which I hear it sounds amazing.

Honestly, this is one item that's kind of a BMW bargain. ~$3,500 for a full catback exhaust + warrantied tune. That's not a bad deal.

I bought a 440i Coupe (RWD) about a year ago and I'm currently thinking about installing the MPPSK on my car. I'm having trouble deciding if I should do it because I could not spend the money to buy the M-Sport package on my car at the time, and I have never seen a non-msport 340i or 440i with the MPPSK installed.

Anyone know if you can purchase the tune separately from the MPPSK package and have them do all the software upgrades and set up with your vin. I have a used M performance exhaust installed but no tune. Has anyone done this and how much did it cost?

BMW doesn't sell the tune and exhaust separate usually. You can get BM3 or MHD and they have a free MPPSK map with a license purchase, but of course without warranty from a dealer if that's what you're interested in.
