I have the 440xi 2018 with BM3 stage 2 93 and sometimes stage 2+. If you don't feel like your car can take a launch, then what's the point of having the tune/power? I go WOT at least every other day. Often, I launch from a red light. Even logging in 4th gear at low RPM puts a HUGE load on your engine. Just enjoy the car, and if you don't feel like you can, then lower your tune.

I'm in the same boat as him… refuse to use LC. Can't imagine it being mind blowingly faster than a normal take off and don't want to put that stress on my transmission. But I do still wonder about my original question, why go wider on all four corners if not symmetrical? Especially with AWD. The extra weight decreases performance

If we're talking about use the launch control mode, I'm just curious if there's actually any benefit. In theory it sounds great to spool turbos up before you launch, but I cannot tell a difference between launch control mode (w/ the checkered flag symbol) and just me launching it. Anyone know more than me about this?

Your axles and driveshaft will thank you for not launching. I'm 6-speed and xDrive, but launches are out of the question for me.

I have launched probably about 20 times total so far. The reason has in at least 18 of those to do a 0-100 measurement as a validation of changes made to the vehicle. I am looking at improving the 0-100 as an indication for improved performance.
Whilst I agree that all launches are stressing the components, it is important to remember that using Launch Control is the safest way to launch as it has built-in protection per design. I always use it, otherwise also the variables in the launch phase increase.

I don't think LC would be offered if some form of protection wasn't built in. That said, braking and gassing together feels violent so I've only done it about 4x. I wanted to confirm in different conditions...the tire spin was worse, and slower on the dragy.

In the "old in days" doing a "brake torque" which is the same thing would result in your torque converter ballooning and destroying it. LC on a DCT sure, on an auto, it's just bad news, regardless if offered from the factory. My 2-cents worth... |

I have noticed the best launches in 1st have always been on the stoplight on a hill on the way home (no launch control, just quick pedal mash). Now I need to try second. |
