E30 crew (fuel, not chassis!) - how picky is BM3 map on fuel mix?

I'm feeling bored and annoyed with CA garbage 91 octane and the BM3 "special needs" map for those of us held back by fuel so I wanted to try out E30. There's only one E85 station within an hour of me so I'm trying to stock some gas cans and plan for mixing (my regular gas station is right around the corner so I can put in E85 at home and go top off with 91 in about 1 minute)

It looks like i should be running a little over 4 gallons of E85 in my 15.9 gallon tank to be at 30% ethanol content, I'm just wondering how exact I need to be to make this work well.

On Stage 1 no mods is it worth the hassle?

Garage List
Did you test the E85 to see what the ethanol content is? My closest E85 guarantees minimum 51% ethanol. Once you figure that out, then you can do your calculations.

Oh wow i didn't realize there's that much range in E85. Sounds like a test kit is next on my list.

You asked if it's worth it. For 5-10 extra horsies, which you may not even feel; are you willing to test and mix fuel at each fill up? That's weekly for me, a lot of work just to put gas in your car. Also this will stress your fuel system so be ready to maintain your pumps. Also this could cause engine failure with long term use. Nah, it's not worth it!

It's not worth it if you have to drive an hour out of your way. A custom tune will go way farther. E30 feels nice and the car runs cooler but it's not life changing. A E50 blend would do wonders but then again , your talking fuel upgrades and custom tune as well.

I bought the BM3 map pack so I figured I'd play around with the E30 tune; it may be in my head but even if it's only 5-10 extra peak hp I think the engine feels a lot punchier on E30, I think on the gimped 91 octane map they pull a lot of timing out to keep it safe, and ethanol allows a lot more freedom to optimize the tune. May not be worth the effort in the long run, but while I'm mostly locked down and working from home I only go through a tank every 2-3 weeks, so bringing 15 gallons of E85 home when I happen to have an excuse to run to Lowes and the E85 station is right down the way is pretty simple and keeps me going for awhile. If I start commuting again I'll probably go back to the regular 91 map, and if it wasn't so easy to change maps from my phone sitting in the car I'd hesitate to mess with it, but this is pretty easy to deal with so far.

yeah I'd be really interested in seeing what this engine can do on E50 or straight E85 but that's a lot more effort!
