And yes London I prefer a petrol, i wouldnt see the benefit in a Diesel doing short ina city coungested journeys all the time.
I don't know how different the 28i is from the 30i, but I was told by my dealer that the 30i along with the 20i and some others were not able to meet the latest emissions standards without some modifications. As I said, I don't know if this applies to the 530i.

As I returned the X1 20d loan car he told me that people had been scared off diesel by the media coverage and were ordering the 20i instead. Unfortunately for them, the 20i no longer met the required pollution standards, while the 20d did!

I have owned both so know the pros and cons of each

Undecided on the whole thing at the minute. The 520 is more in my price range but I’m wondering whether I should wait and see what the G20 brings or try and get a 340i once the heavy discounts kick in around the end of the year/early next year.

Petrol exhaust particulate matter has limits, like diesel particulates, under the new WLTP test regime. Some engines require GPF (gasoline particulate filters) fitted to comply.
