Just Wanted to Introduce Myself - New 335i Owner

Hello.

I just wanted to introduce myself. I just purchased a new-to-me 2013 BMW 335i xDrive with M Sport Package. Car is Estoril Blue and in excellent condition. 6-speed manual. I have been extremely impressed with it.

I drove from north Kentucky (just south of Cincinnati) about 500 miles to Virginia to purchase it. Well worth the drive. On the way back, I ended up driving through very heavy snow/blizzard conditions. I am originally from Louisiana so driving in snow is not something I have much experience with. The car did amazing. Very solid, stable and confidence inspiring. Made it through the snow in the mountains then hit heavy rain for several hours. When I was about 2 hours away from home, the back end of the storm system hit and the rain began to turn to freezing rain and sleet. No problem. Weather then turned to blizzard conditions for the last 2 hours of the drive. Made it home without any close calls.

Needless to say, I AM EXTREMELY IMPRESSED and LOVING THE CAR.

The previous owner took good car of the car and had spark plugs, front rotors replaced in December. He also has a BG fuel, front differential, rear differential, and transfer case service done.

The car also has the BMW Performance Pack; BMW intake and engine calibration so that is good.

I am thinking I may get a stage 1 tune for a little bit more power.

Not sure if there is anything else I need to to maintenance wise. Maybe an oil change just in case.

So far I am really enjoying the car.

No pictures of it yet. Car is filthy with ice and salt and all the car washes are closed around here for the next couple of days since we have highs forecast in the teens.

Thanks.

Change the oil when you get a chance and enjoy your purchase. My 335 is the most fun I've ever had driving a car...I'm still smiling 6 months later.

Congratulations and welcome! Pictures are of course even more welcome.

How many miles / what tires does the vehicle have? Glad to see that xDrive became instantly helpful during the drive home.

Get a stage 2 with cat-less down pipe. You already have performance pack so any flash will overwrite that. A stage 1 will not produce big enough gains to what you have to be worth it.

It really depends on your goals/use of the car. For the street, I’d argue the stock intercooler is sufficient even for the added boost. The charge pipe though is an absolute requirement. Stock boost is enough to ruin the plastic crap charge pipe our cars received from the factory. I personally have been running a VRSF charge pipe for a few years now and haven’t had a single issue, even when using higher boost maps with E40 mixed in.

Yeah, upgraded CP is advised even for a stock car. I run Stage 2+ and e30 map with stock FMIC. I don't do multiple pulls and our weather has been cool. I also watch IAT's but may upgrade that in the summer.

Congrats and welcome! These cars are really competent in snow conditions without any mods. I have been through a couple of snowstorms myself with the factory setup and it performed exceedingly well and got me home safely.

Indeed. The Estoril Blue is amazing. I traded a Black 2008 Audi S6 for the BMW. I really liked the Audi but it was not a manual, got terrible gas mileage, and I was really tired of the black.

From the 2nd floor of the building I work in, I can see the parking lot and it it nothing but a sea of shades of gray. Black, white, light gray, silver, dark gray, dark blue (looks black) cars. Maybe 1 out of 15 cars is red but the red is always a dark maroon. I wanted my next car to have some personality and the Estoril Blue does that nicely.

68K on the odometer. Car is not perfect but it does seem to be well maintained.

It has Pirelli Cinturato P7 all-seasons. I was a bit concerned about having all-season tires on the car when I hit the heavy snow. But they were pretty great.

If I do go with a new down pipe, I would like to get one with high flow cats. I don't much care for the exhaust smell of going catless.

Is there any particular brand of downpipe that is recommended? This is my first BMW so I am not familiar with the BMW aftermarket.

Also, what aftermarket tunes are the most reliable/best? I am not looking for max power, just a moderate bump of maybe 40 to 50 hp/tq over stock.

To echo an earlier comment, replacing the stock charge pipe at 68K miles would be a prudent step forward.

ER makes a great charge pipe. Highly recommended. Fit and finish are exemplary (not a commercial endorsement - just personal experience).
