what state do you live in? Last year in PA I passed with a catless downpipe and mhd stg2+ e30 tune but this year they actually looked and saw I had no cat and had to swap it back in. Same place too. Oh well I'll try again next year as I'm getting pretty good at swapping the downpipe now.

NY... Jiffy lube... took 5 minutes... Fabspeed is the only pipe that passes 100%...

Ah gotcha I'm actually from NY as well but I moved to PA a few years ago. I'll say one thing is I don't miss having to worry about failing due to a check engine light in NY as PA inspections at least in the county I live in is only visual

AA hi flow catted dp passes 100% also and has EPA certification with its GESI element

Never had a problem here in PA passing both visual and obd, no cel either

Figures that wasn't available when I bought mine... good to see options... looks like a small cat... says 4.5" ... just curious how it flows compared to fabspeed...great price!... oh well... bought and paid for already...

There is a user on here who bought AA catted a little while back. Got a CEL for cat and emission monitor was not ready within about a month of install IIRC. He (his shop) contacted AA and they sent him another DP. Not sure what happened other that. Nothing against the product as i have no doubt AA will stand behind their claims and I'm sure its a quality product, just something to be aware of. It was likely an outlier.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing they visually saw it this time. Maybe last year a lesser mechanic inspected it without really caring and this year it was a more thorough mechanic. That's just a guess though.

You would fail for non-standard emissions equipment in my state. Just a visual check, it's not enforced 100% across the board, but I have known folks fail for just that. I pass with stage 2+ E30 and the factory cat fitted as well. You just need a tune that enables the CAT checks.
