check engine light came on after subwoofer replacement

hi all

I have F48 X1 but I post here cause there are a lot of experience BMW people here.

I have replaced the under seat sub passenger sub (Bavsound)without disconnecting battery and removing airbag connection. Check engine light came on after 3 days. I deleted it via Esys but it came back on.

Can someone please help how can I have a permanent fix like remove battery, and passenger airbag cable, wait for few minutes then plug them back ?

I will replace driver's seat tomorrow but I will definitely disconnect battery and airbag cable this time.

Many thanks for your answers!
Thanks.

If you removed the seat that broke the connection between it and iDrive. That shouldn't give a check engine warning, it should give an airbag inoperative warning. You need to use an OBD diagnostic and repair tool to reset that.

is it really a check engine light or the /!\ symbol? when adding my subwoofer I got the alert on my dash notifying me to reset my time..if it is your CEL, finding the code would probably be the easiest start.

Btw, there is no need to unplug any seat wiring or completely remove seats to replace the under seat speakers

Just remove seat bolts and tip seat back

That way you dont need to disconnect battery at all or go thru the issues you had

I know that I don't need to unplug any airbag cables which I did when I first replaced the passenger seat sub but 3 days later the check engine light came on. That's why I tried that way.

I tried to troubleshoot with ISTA-D this today again after the check engine light came back on. It shows the front speaker (showing each speaker one by one) disconnected with 5 separate Faults. I just tried to delete only one Fault and all of those Faults check engine light got deleted.
