Real world MPG?

I was just wondering if some F30 owner can tell us what they get in the real world?

Nothing to report yet, but I will be able to by next weekend; I expect my 335i by next Thursday or Friday. Also, I am good at getting respectable mileage out of my current N54 335i sedan, which was EPA-rated at 19 and 26. I average better than 25 during my weekly commutes, errands, weekend jaunts, etc., by using its low-end torque.

The new car is rated at 23 and 33; I am hoping for 30 or better . However, that first week will have some flogging and demo-ing to friends and coworkers (probably true for any of us getting the new car, we HAVE to show it off, for God's sake, it's our DUTY), which will make it initially tough to keep it representative of real world driving. But I will give a characterization of its thirstiness regardless of that caveat ASAP.

I'm anxiously waiting for new owners to report the Real World MPGs for both 328i and 335i. I'm interested in finding out the difference between the two models. I'm expecting to see 5-6 MPGs difference.....

EPA shows city difference of only 1MPG and Highway of 3MPG. It mostly depends on one's right foot.

I've found my E90 and E60 mileage to closely match the numbers posted by BMW. I would expect the F30 numbers to also be close to the numbers advertised.

Owner experience with 2012 328i sedan for MPG

I took delivery on Feb 9. MPG changes quite a bit between sport mode driving for performance and ECO mode driving for fuel economy.

Driving around in ECO mode (both car and me) in Silicon Valley with a mix of city and highway I get about 34 mpg based on what iDrive tells me.

Driving around in a sportier mode in my head and in sport mode on the 328i, I get about 28 MPG.

The EPA numbers just represent an estimated range of MPGs. I expect the 328 to be closer to the highway number (36), while the 335 to be closer to the city number (23), both in mixed driving. 328 = 30 mpgs vs 335 = 25 mpgs.

I have my doubts after driving the Modern 328i , 27.5 MPG after soft driving over 15+ Miles!! thats not good at all, and despite people saying "it will improve with miles" most do NOT.

Is 15 miles really enough to get an accurate number?

The MPG will improve a lot as the engines are allowed to break in
Dont expect the greatest figures from brand new engines

Wow that impressive! I guess you have the 8spd auto? What speed you are cruising at on the highway?

It isn't if your typical trip is greater than fifteen miles. As we know, the worst "instantaneous" mpg happens during coming up to temperature, which lasts for at least the first 5 or 6 miles, and during winter often longer. Plus as said elsewhere, I'd wait til it has at least 500 miles on it before judging as typical. But, all early returns are appreciated!

I get 25 plus mpg over three years with my N54 sedan in mixed driving of SoCal congested freeways, errands, etc.. I think that I will get higher than that with the much more efficient 2012. I wouldn't expect everyone to do as well, though, especially when one is enjoying the thrills of a great and brand new car; as such, it'll be hard to keep a soft right foot for a long period!

Coming from my X5, it will be a huge difference. I see an average of 15.4mpg in that one lol xD

Any new feedback on mpg? It would be great to get the following from the fortunate 2012 328 and 335 sedan owners.

Model
Transmission
Trip mileage
% stop and go
Driving style (Eco/normal/spirited)

I can add only my test drive figures with 335i automatic. First one has about 6km extra urban driving and little fun on snowy parking lot, using sport and sport+ modes. Second one is my normal trip to work with also about 6-7km extra urban and rest is urban. Traffic was on lighter side and I did not push it. On second trip 90% of time I used comfort mode and 10% fiddled with different modes.

So that makes 17.8 and 28.3 mpg? I think the fun on the parking lot did it in the first mileage, the second mileage looks decent enough to me for the 335i

http://www.digitaldutch.com/unitconv...onsumption.htm gave 18,1 and 29,4mpg. For trip1 also snow played a part as I using smaller streets with some snow and started with cold engine (it was -5C / 23F). I also sat in car with engine running and played with iDrive. I was convinced that this car had more than enough power and also confirmed that I will wait for xDrive in order to put this power to road. It also made me think that I actually might prefer 328 with more options and better mpg to 335 (comfort is more important to me than lap time on race track).

Yeah all those factors make a difference indeed. It's probably better to have the car run for an hour and then start a test like this. Either way, the normal driving test was decent enough for my taste (plus, my current car is doing 15.4 mpg on average (about 15.27 l/100km) so it will be a huge difference for me in the 328i
