Manual Transmission will not go into 3rd or 5th gear.
It's like there is a wall preventing it. It doesn't grind or anything. It goes into reverse and barely goes into 1st. 3rd and 5th are a no go. Turned off, turned on and checked everything but nothing seems wrong. It's a 2014 335i msport. It has approx 45k miles.

I wish I could help you more...it sure sounds like it'd be a gearshift rather than transmission thing. Something is loose/worn is my guess. I don't know enough about them to know what is wrong with yours, but I'd bet if you google your symptoms you'd get some hints. I know things wear down, so I'd suspect tiny pieces first. The selector rod looks pretty solid, but the bushings, etc. attached to them look like they could wear easily. Sorry I can only guess and bump!

My co-worker did have an issue with their 2013 6mt 335 under warranty which resulted in the trans being replaced by the dealer. I would start with doing a fluid drain/refill.
It might be a synchro issue :/

Taking it in this week to have a professional look at it. I was going to sell it once it's fixed. I am in CA if anyone was looking to buy it. I have about 50k miles or there about +/- 5k miles. 2014 335i msport. I am going to end up taking the Dinan Sport out of it and giving it away here and also other parts I have never installed like the keyless door handle and lowering springs. That will be pickup only because I don't want to pay for shipping something that heavy lol.
But never the less it drives fine in 2nd/4th/6th gears. 1st is ok, but it doesn't seem like it goes in all the way and feels like it would pop out. Reverse is fine too. Just 3rd and 5th are a no-go. Was going to sell, or trade in for a Ford f250 3/4 ton to tow my 30ft 5th wheel. I am retiring in 5 years at 45 years old and I wanted to live full time in my 5th wheel exploring the western USA / high deserts / low deserts.

I was having a similar issue but with reverse rather than 3rd and 5th. Here's my thread about it: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1765985
I'd be willing to bet that you need a new trans. Even if double clutching works and it is just the synchros, you'll still need a new trans as they aren't serviceable. Basically if anything goes wrong internally with the transmission, the solution is replacement.

Not sure with these cars, but a buddy had a similar issue where 5th and Reverse wouldn't engage,
1-3-5 2-4-R Turns out he'd broken a plastic guide clip from the shifter that guides the wires. Cost all of 2 bucks to fix it..... he drove it like that for over 12 months, thinking that it was more serious (and expensive) |
