Warranty claims

I've had an issue with some paint work that the BMW Regional Manager for Warranty Claims has said is caused by a stone chip (which makes little sense as the stone chip has paint and lacquer all around it), so it's been refused.

The area of the lacquer peel is quite large (around 1 sq inch).

Has anyone else had any similar issues with paintwork warranty claims?

I am not sure why, but I do feel like I have to fight really hard with them over pretty much everything.

Here you go.

It's down to the plastic where I've polished it to show the dealer the lacquer has completely failed in the area.

+1 that's terrible! The warranty manager should be ashamed of himself.

According to the woman at the dealer, BMW will automatically refuse any kind paintwork warranty claim if there is any outside influence (i.e. a stone chip) in close proximity.

My point with all of this is that it's not normal for lacquer to just peel away like that with any kind of stone chip (unless you're constantly blasting your car close up with a pressure washer!). If it was 'normal' your car would look like a wreck in only a matter on months.

They even tried to reject a claim for some paint peel inside both wheel arches - claiming "it could have been caused by stones".
