Will this need to be coded to the vehicle if I replace it in a base F30 because the airbag serial number is somehow coded to the VIN? My car is a 2014 320xi pretty basic - no heated steering wheel, no paddle shifters, etc...

No, you will not need to code anything for the airbag. There is nothing VIN specific for airbags (BMW uses several different bags on F series cars that is dependent on trim level (base, sport, Msport, etc.). The airbag and wheel FS here is entirely plug and play. I had a base 3 series also and this worked perfectly fine while I had it, and felt a hell of a lot better in the hands that the plasticky/rubbery base wheel since this one is leather

If you want to enable the additional functions that your car may not have come with, like the heat, you'll have to source the on/off button for the side of the steering column, and code that functionality. You'll also have to code for the paddle shifters. There is information somewhere on the site about enabling the paddle shifters for cars that were not equipped with them. If you don't want to bother with that, you don't have to, there is no CEL code generated if you do not activate any features that your car may not have been built with. I ran it for awhile this way, zero CELs.

If your car DOES have heat, and the safety package that the vibration module is used for, then it will be entirely plug and play.
