Hi,

Might be off topic but couldn’t find recent post and new to this forum so apologies in advance.

I am new to BMW’s (owning one) I just bought a 2010 3 Series coupe. After a couple of days it had an increased battery discharge error. I took it back to the dealer they replaced the battery with a new one, happy days.

Now my query, when I put the key fob in, the idrive and electronics start without me pushing the start button, is this right? Or is there a problem?

Thanks

Wrong forum mate. But welcome anyway.
You need to be over on the E90/91/92 forum seeing as you have an E92 & E92 question.

I have done this on my 430d, but the horn sounds on lock if the engine is still running.

Correct. If you walk away it beeps at you. Can't be accidental walk away without switch off unless this feature is more recent than OP car?

I forgot to turn off the car once and it let me lock the car but I'd not shut off the engine. It also did not chirp when locked. They must have updated the software so it honks the horn now if you leave the engine running and lock it. I would rather it just turned off the engine when you lock it. Otherwise there is no warning if you don't lock it like parking in a private 1 or 2 car garage.

Mine can be locked with the engine running and it doesn’t chirp at you.
This is great because I can leave .the car defrosting.

My MY17 pre-LCI 440i didn't beep. I once left it running in a multi-story car park for a couple of hours while the wife and I had a meal. Came back and it was locked but burbling away discreetly to itself. I still didn't register that the noise was my car until I got in and found the dashboard all lit up. Oops.

the SWMBO had the same problem. it was an ASS problem. ASS put the car in ready when stopped. SWMBO put it in park or opened door before switching off. ASS switched off then she pressed the stop button. straight six too quiet to hear it start so locked up and left car running.

Here is the conversation to avoid:

darling you have an ASS problem.

what do you f**king mean?

darling you need to allow for your ASS position before leaving otherwise your ASS will turn into a BIG problem.

f**k you, I dont have A BIG ASS problem!

Suggest you quietly take it to dealer

Pretty sure it happened on X7 2020

In last 3 weeks there were 3 occasions where I believe car had started on its own after I shut it down.
First time I thought I might have touched the start/stop button.
Second time I was sure I haven't touched SS button but I did press navigation dial.
Third time was an hour ago when I KNOW I shut the car down because I heard engine stopping at the same time while I was opening the door, while exiting my right foot accidentally pressed a gas pedal while my left one was still on the brake and car started and revved up.

For the first two time I couldn't swear I had not unintentially re-started it, but I found it very strange and unlikely, for the last time (because I was paying a very good attention) I know car started while not being directed to.

Yes, that's my routine too, but make sure your foot is off the brake for the second press or it restarts again.
