Some times from my 397bhp/589lbsft 435d, all through Vbox data.

0-60mph : 3.6s
0-100mph : 9.1s
0-120mph : 14.1s

Qtr mile 12.1 @ 112.9mph

Would say a tuned 340i would be a good match

LOL this place is getting worse. Everyone out there now knows more than me what I WANTED in a car. Ridiculous.

Imagine for a moment us poor ol diesel buyers are intelligent too....and knew all about the car, the 4x4 and it was what we wanted to drive.

I've driven every type of BMW and for my work car NOTHING will do it better than my current choice.

Thumbs down

This thread is the motoring equivalent of Talksport Drive Time with Adrian Durham....."Liverpool in the 70s and 80s....were they all that good really?"

Lobs in hand grenade and awaits phone calls....

Still I'm shocked at the basic lack of manners of people here towards other owners. Internets innit, everyone's a hero online but would you say to a random in the pub his car was shit? Hmm.

I think you need to chill out...A thread with this title was intended to be I deliberately controversial and thus mildy amusing. If you can't handle that, maybe you should take your own advice from a few days ago and choose to ignore it.

There's hardly anything in it as the various stats that have been posted in this thread and elsewhere prove.

Come now, the 340i is going to need another 100bhp in order to justify that kind of comment!!!

There really isnt going to be a lot in it, but I dont doubt the 340i will have a edge once the wheels are rolling. Physics says so: lighter car and more power.

The following backs up what most have said - 335d wins 0-60, somewhere between 60mph and 100mph advantage turns to the 340i but not massive up to 100mph (or 160kmh). Difference starts to get bigger up to 125mph (or 200kmh) where 340i has ~1.5 second advantage.

435d actual results according to French magazine Le Moniteur Automobile. 340i results average of 4 mags (Auto Motor & Sport, Auto Zeitung, Auto Bild, Sport Auto)

435d vs 340i respectively (figures for LCI 335d aren't available)

0-100 km/h 4.7 vs 4.9
0-160 km/h 11.4 vs 10.9
0-200 km/h 19.2 vs 17.5

I guess it depends on your definition of 'hardly anything in it'. Are all of these cars fast enough? For road use, yes, these and the 328i, 330i, 330d are all faster than the majority of cars on the road.
Which would you use to race for money? 340i for me please.

By the way, the stats shown are very simplistic BMW figures and headline numbers only. Good for a quick reference, but might not be that accurate in real life. I think the Launch control on the 335d would improve the times, which this calculation is not picking up on.

Jesus, tell you one thing. Diesel owners really are a touchy bunch aren't they!?!?

To set the records straight, I think the 335d X drive is an astoundingly competent car, and I absolutely agree that BMW make the best Diesel engines in. I totally see the appeal... ridiculous useable torque for every day driving.

My comments are deliberately tongue in cheek, but with a thread title like this I would have thought everyone here was big enough and ugly enough to take a bit of banter.

Also to be clear. I would happily tell anyone driving a diesel that they drive a shit car. But if you say it with a smile on your face and your clearly just being a wind up merchant people don't take offence.

Even if they are cheapskate, oil burning, tractor loving twats.

I would love you to say that to my face with a smile, I would swiftly wipe it off your grid!

Then I would agree with you, diesel is gash, but at this moment with my commute it works a treat!

Petrol owners get touchy when diesel owners post up 0 - 60 times of 3.6 seconds.

Should not be possible/allowed in a diesel? But it is.

Not being funny here.....I have a pretty good (pay for) bit of software that predicts car performance based on very comprehensive range of parameters, and I would have to enter well over 500hp /620ft.lb into it to get anything under 4 seconds 0-60 for a standard xDrive chassis. So unless that 3.6 involves a steep hill, I very much doubt it is real.

anyway, this is all a bit of fun....we aren't going to meet up and have it out on the race track.....we are after all a bunch of arm chair racers spouting 0-60 figures. I am picturing Jeremy Clarkson breaking into his anorak "Well my car......" voice.

I love performance diesels and won't say a bad word on them.

The 335d would have been an awesome car for me.

I only wet petrol as it was cheaper ad I'm now doing less miles

I don't think the 340i will slaughter a 335d unless you remap it to M3 levels of power.

I agree it might have the edge over 100mph or even 125mph so it would have the advantage on the track but let's be honest, you can hardly slip a rizla paper between the performance of the two.
