Based on logs there really isn't any difference in IAT between an open box intake like the CTS one or the stock intake. The FMIC impacts IATs more than anything. The open box intakes are just a sound mod.

^^unless you are running a larger turbo and pushing a lot more power at which point the stock intake piping becomes restrictive.

Exactly, I did a bunch of testing with stock vs cts intake and it didn't make a difference. Once you get moving they even out.

Intakes are like jewelry for cars. They look good but don’t do much.

It's not about looks or performance, it's about sound.

For anyone thinking about getting the CTS Turbo intake I would totally recommend it. Especially if your looking for one with great sound. Not going to lie though. For the first couple miles it did sound a little okayish, but man did it come alive.

Just installed this. Wow! What a great and addictive sound! Easy install with the instructions. Totally recommended.

Now time to install the CTS DP and FMIC for Stage 2 to ring in 2020

Hi. I have installed it on my f30, but how have you solved the problem with the high-temperature coming from the cooling hose? The aluminum part almost sits on the cooling hose and the intake pipe takes all the heat from it - the intake air before turbo becomes much hotter (especially in a traffic jam) than with OEM. Contacted CTS Turbo and they said, that the intake temperature before turbo doesn't make an impact on performance... So, it seems like they make it just you to have some great Instagram stories..

I have seen several people try to argue that IAT at the intake doesn't matter because the car is intercooled, but i completely disagree with that statement. Sucking in higher temperature air is going to have an affect on the IC and overall performance - it may not be immediate in the sense that the IC may be able to cool the air down on the first pull to the same temperature after the IC that it would have been regardless of what temperature the air entered the system at (this also operates on the assumption that the IC has the capacity to cool down air at a higher temperature, which is an assumption), but it is certainly going to contribute to heat soak over time (IC will heat up faster than it would have otherwise).

Most people buy intake's for the noise anyways. If you were really concerned about keeping IATs at the intake down, you would keep a closed intake that doesn't draw hot air from the engine bay (or as you mentioned, heat up the intake air in other ways as well).

Mostly true yeah, but once you get moving the iat's come down pretty damn quick, there is no more or less heat soak than stock. The things we do know is that the stock intake is a restriction with an aftermarket turbo. There was a local guy to me who made 7-8hp with an intake on his 2014 ewg n55. It was mainly above and below the peak of the curve. I believe he had an injen like I have.

All that you guys ever do here is just parrot the same info that other people say as fact, everything ive seen personally shows they help. Whether or not its huge or small, they usually help. Unless its BMS... as soon as someone asks about one, 50 people show up trying to sell them theirs lol

Not sure what you are saying i parroted... I just laid out my logic for how it could potentially impact IATs. Didnt mention anything in the context of the intake being a restriction, particularly not for a aftermarket turbo application. I think the entire performance discussion for intakes is somewhat pointless anyways given that its +/- a few HP. If you have already done everything else, have a bigger turbo, and are looking to get the last few bit on bolt-on gains that you can, then i guess you might consider an intake and importantly a turbo inlet as well to get that last bit of optimization. In a constantly moving situation, yeah, the IAT considerations are probably be negligible (with an upgraded IC of course). But i know how quickly underhood temps rise when you are not moving.

Bottom line is, some people like intakes, some people hate them. I'm indifferent /shrug.
