Catastrophic failures anyone?

Hello all,

I have recently acquired a BMW f30 with 50,000 miles on it. So far it has been an exceptional vehicle. I have tuned it and installed an injen cold air intake, but am wondering at what point to these cars begin to see mechanical failures.

Any shared wisdom is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

The description on the left side says 2015, 320i. I now know that it cannot be seen by all viewers. For the longest time I wondered why people kept asking when it was so clearly displayed on the left side.

My 2013 F30 328i is now at 121k miles and going strong. Normal maintenance and I did have the timing and oil chains and guides replaced preemptively since my vehicle is in the affected years of suspect parts.

The car is easy on tires, eats up highway miles, and is reliable. I could not be happier. Yours is just a pup!

Deprecation is a bitch on BMW. Not much a catastrophic failure but still not easy on the bottom line

How much was it to replace the timing and oil chains? Was it done at a dealership?

Definitely hearing more and more members say things like this regarding preemptive timing chain & guide replacement.

Guess this is a must or do most owners wait for the whine??

User error? If so, definitely not covered.

In my case it was practical. I often take long trips for vacations in the car. With a defined end time, it was not practical to imagine the chain whining while on vacation and having to miss work and lose vacation days for the fix or even worse, a catastrophic failure a thousand miles from home.
