Did anyone watch SAS selection?
Ok I'm a bit behind on my sky box recordings but just finished watching the series on civvies trying to get through a 7 day sad selection course... Did anyone else watch it?
I really enjoyed it and it was much more interesting than I'd expected. That only 2 of 30 who started made it to the end and passed really showed how tough it was.

Did watch
It's amazing to think that would probably only been a small taster of what the real SAS went through to get through Also interesting to see how relatively down to earth the instructors were. Respect to them all.

Remember the initial assessment phase just slims it down a bit.
They are still under assessment for a while afterwards as well. One of the key things is to be unassuming. Total respect for our guys that do it and those that volunteer for assessment. |

The show lasted 7 days, the hills phase alone lasts a month on selection.
Unfortunately the show and real life is chalk and cheese. Still, I bet it made good tv. |

From donkeys years ago I seem to remember a vaguely similar thing on telly - my memory tells me that things like extra languages counted back then.... But I am getting on a bit
PS enjoyed it

It must be quite difficult I would have thought to hold down a full time job but also be a special forces reservist. I'd imagine the training demands are huge.
Is it realistically possible for a reservist to reach and maintain the same level of proficiency and fitness as a full time member of the SAS? I Guess it must be but just interested to understand how this works in practice. |

https://www.gov.uk/employee-reservist/introduction Certain professions handle a large number of reservists but also benefit from the training and experience they gain. Nurses and doctors gained a huge amount of experience working in Afghanistan. There were a large number of reservists deployed there. The awkward bit is when you are placed on standby and it's a busy period for your employer etc. With certain roles, it's being able to keep up things like fitness, access to a decent range (only so many long range / 0.5 cal ranges). There is also a bit of divide between active reserve and non active reserve. https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/ They are always looking for decent people and some roles are really great. |
