Just got off the phone with CTS and they explained a few questions I had. Really nice guy I talked to, he said they will have the installation instructions up soon.
I installed it mostly right, the only issue being the support for the air filter that tacks onto the airbox. I guess the air filter clamp is suppose to go around both the air filter and the support. I'll fix mine tonight and update my blog's instructions for anyone watching. The extra bolts in the bag are there just in case you lose one. The grommet snapping in very tight is by design, he suggested I use a bit of lubricant to seat it in there. If I still have issues he said he would speak to the production guys to have it punched a little larger. Thanks

The page has been updated with the complete instructions. No guessing anymore.
Permalink to the page here: http://*************/335i-cts-intake/ Here is the "tuning fork" as I called it bracket that cradles the intake. It's the black piece attached by the bolt below the MAF housing in the middle: [IMG]http://i1.wp.com/*************/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/IMG_0420-e1475729056840.jpg?resize=683%2C1024[/IMG] The hose clamp that holds the air intake on is suppose to go around both the air filter and that support bracket as seen here: [IMG]http://i0.wp.com/*************/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0422-e1475729973694.jpg?resize=683%2C1024[/IMG]

Great write up on your blog for the installation and testing. Thanks for sharing this with us. Its nice to have options for intakes. You'll have to let us know if you experience any CELs with this.

Will do, and thanks!
Prior to getting this intake I would get a CEL when pushing the car hard. I posted about one of them a while back: Here Code:
Motor Control: Engine / Motor Throttle angle - intake manifold absolute pressure, Comparative pressure too low Code: 101F01 I just chalked it up to the fact I had a JB Stage 1 installed. So far with this intake I have not seen any of those CEL's pop up. If that changes I'll be sure to update the post.

Finished install, Only comment is that The 10mm bolt that goes into the rubber grommet adapter is extremely tough to line up, Seems like the heat shield puts a lot of pressure on it and the fit isn't that passive.
Thing sounds amazing though, nothing crazy over powering as in a constant loudness, I believe what I'm hearing is the waste gate and its really loud with this, correct me if I'm wrong though. Only thing Im worried about is all the attachments constantly loosening up, doesn't seem like they are going to stick where they are. Ill whip it around a bit and keep checking. By the way badbread, your write up was great! |

So, been living with this thing for about a month now and thought I'd share my final thoughts about it.
Beside the lack of instructions when I purchased this thing I haven't had any issues. Once I installed the grommet correctly the vacuum hose line now sits flush, it hasn't shook itself loose, and the sound! At first I thought I made a big mistake (especially when the wife called not even 5 minutes into her driving it the first time with the intake on) but I've learned to love it. Still no CEL's even after pushing the car harder than I ever have before (Trip home back to the Bay Area from Santa Barbara, Waze took us off 101 and onto some real California back roads where I pushed the car HARD) I've learned IAT is more about intercooler efficiency rather than intake air, and yea, so far so good. This gets my very unqualified seal of approval.

Bay Area? I just ordered the injen intake.(heard it was the loudest) it shows up Monday, maybe we could meet up and compare both side by side for everyone. Then I'll probably jump on the CTS intake and sell my injen

Can I ask a favour? What is the height that the top of the tube extends upwards in line with the attachment to the hood cross link?

Ive been running this intake since April this year. No CEL, No Tune and most importantly No Issues. Thank you for your write up and logging BadBread, quality photos and detail in your posts! I have a few sound clips but shot on a phone that I can post. I'll try to get some better quality shot shortly.

i don't have anything else to compare to, but my guess is, most open box filters will sound about the same. you will hear the swishing sounds from the DV. sometimes i notice it, sometimes i don't. it all depends on radio, speed, windows updown etc..
