completely disagree. absolutely hate the center stack and much prefer BMWs execution of the screen. there is no flow with this dash, just seems like lots of different shapes. i agree with the others, seems like a retro 80s style to me. look at the shifter, yuck.

i like the lexus gs dash, cant believe how big of a fail this is.

Car looks good. Given the recent interiors and the shots of this interior it looks like Lexus has squarely beat BMW in the quality department. The 3 series is seriously lacking for the price point (interior wise) even though its a great driving car.

This car has really GROWN on me a lot...it looks much better in black...to overtake the 3 series is wishful thinking. They were trying to overtake the 5er with the current GS (the only phantom of the opera Lexus I like) but even with better handling the 5er outsells the GS almost 3 to 1.

I'm still going to keep my final judgement until after the actual IS-F and M3 drops.

Lexus is dull, never could stand those cars and I've been in a bunch of them.

That interior looks pretty damn good. I like the industrial/boxy style, more than the 3 series curvy interior. It does look a lot better in this commercial, but it is the F-sport. F30 M-sport is pretty hard to beat.

Give Lexus props for finally admitting MB and BMW are ahead, it really takes a lot for the Japanese to admit this publicly. Now...they just have to prove it but it won't be easy since they already failed and change does not happen over night nor is it a common practice in Japan. On a side note....just rented an X3 (4 cyl turbo). Just have to convince the wife this will be her next car and not the Lexis R350.

The Lexus engineer said he thought that this car would "leave its mark on history".

Well, I think it will, as one of the ugliest designs to come out of Japan in recent years. Bravo Toyota !

Perhaps Canada's best known automotive analyst, Dennis Des Rossiers, said it best recently after having surveyed all of the latest cars @ the Detroit Auto Show, "the Germans remain unchallenged in the luxury segment".

LOL same here!

Perhaps, similar to Honda and Acura with the Civic and ILX respectively, they will listen to customer feedback and make a radical change 1 year after initial production.. (don't see how this is possible with an engine.. R&D is a must)..

A few ways I could see this car being fixed (NOT OVERTAKE THE BMW)... Tail lights are nice, until they start fading into those awkward thin lines, remove the lines and its nice again. The front, I think the grill is way too powerful, shrink it a little bit, similar to the GS.. it does not have to cover the entire front top to bottom..

Interior I think is wonderful, especially all the nice LFA inspired gauges.. but as for the engine.. using an engine that has been around since 2005... you're better than that Toyota..... 2.5 V6 is a complete dog, and gets similar gas mileage to the 3.5 V6... introduce a 2.0T and perhaps a 3.5T or maybe even a 3.0T....

Good German competitor. Lexus needs some Danish guys to sort out that interior though.

The new IS is horrific in person. The front is fugly and the tail lights are saggy. I was floored by how poorly designed and overly styled it was. After seeing it at NAIAS I felt bad for Lexus. The "Pursuit of BMW" should be abandoned. The surprise was the Corolla Furia concept which actually had good proportions. If they tidy up the grille the corolla will be attractive.

"My mission is to overtake the BMW 3-Series as number one in the compact sedan category," says Furuyama. "That is the way I see it. That is the task we are assigned."

Furuyama admits that the previous IS fell short in the performance department.

"As soon as I was assigned to be IS chief engineers of the IS, I drove all the rival cars and studies all the differences," he says. "Unfortunately, while I thought the IS was one of the sportier and more enjoyable cars in this segment, I found out that the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class were actually a few steps ahead of us. That was my initial feeling."

So much hate.

If lexus tuned the new IS to be like the GS. F30 is pretty much going to lose the benchmark of this segment.

Currently My wife has E90 328i and I just bought a new F30 328i for my daughter last week. First time my daughter drove the F30 after I brought it home. He first comment that the steering and brake felt loose. She preferred the E90 brake and steering feel much better.

I wouldn't be surprised if new IS will out perform F30, especially when F30 has taken a step back compare to E90. F30 has much better engine/transmission combo. But rest of the car is a step behind.
