F30 JB4 Stage2 Dyno Testing

The car is an 8spd automatic and equipped with an ER F30 downpipe and 93 octane. Otherwise stock.

The F30 Stage2 is similar to the N54 and E90 N55 JB4 with the exception of functional dash control. So, no in dash gauges. But you can cycle through maps and disable the tune all together using the steering wheel controls.

Overall gains were on par with E90 N55s. Huge gains under the curve more so than peak gains. Typically speaking map 1 would be used for factory downpipe, map 2 for aftermarket downpipe, and for those lucky enough to have E85 access that can be used with or without a downpipe. Alternatively racing fuel can be used instead of E85.

Up next some additional refinements and then will start looking around for alpha testers. Initially the upgrade kit will be available only to automatic F30s who have the pneumatic boost solenoid. You'll add a few wires to the harness and replace the control box with the new JB4 module.

Jebus, 419wtq with just a tune at the wheels...it took me a LOT of money, cams, and loud aftermarket parts to get to 330awtq on my Evo VIII...!

Great job!

I think you're tires will impact it more than anything with that much torque!!

255-275 wide tires will be smokey with this much power at the wheels...

^^^ Also interested in a intake for the AT in case anyone is taking notes..

Also, when stage 2 is able to upgrade, if you already have stage 1, how much more money will it be to upgrade?

So if I don't have stage one or anything, car is completely stock. Well I be able to just buy stage 2? This is my first BMW, does this shorten the life of the transmission or any part of the car? I don't want to push the parts over its limit.

Thanks.

Anything for the Manual guys, I would love to have something like this. Over 400ft lbs of torque will make the car feel good.

Looks like I will be ordering that stage 2 when it opens up. So used to n54 that torque is nice but the hp is lacking in this motor, sure it's still great to drive. What percentage of e85 was used for that run 50/50? Hopefully the manual stage 2 will be ready for order at the end of march.

Awesome, can't wait to get this. Can you clarify the 4 runs here?

1 - Stock or stage 1?
2 - Stage 2 w/ stock DP
3 - Stage 2 w/ aftermarket DP
4 - Stage 2 w/ E85 or race fuel

Is that correct? Also does this have CAN features? How can you tell if you have pneumatic boost solenoid? I have 11/2012 build.

My guess is 1 is Map 0 which would be factory like boost settings, so the reason it's higher than you'd expect is solely from the down pipe.

I dont think any of the graphs represent dyno without an aftermarket downpipe. I.e., catless DP give a good boost alone.

I'd like to see the figures with a factory downpipe and only tune.

(it looks about right, I think most DP's claim about 30 hp and the car has dyno'd stock about 275hp at the wheels. Looks like the stage two gives about the same HP as stage 1 right now but a bit more torque)

Stage 1 Comparison
Below is the stage 1 graph with factory DP: 310hp/357tq looks like the best run w/ baseline factory being 278hp/304tq
http://burgertuning.com/images/N55_dyno_beta.jpg

Stage 1 with DP: 335hp/398tq seems about the avg run

Here's a pic of a pneumatic boost solenoid (notice the tube with green lettering)

wow those figs look promising, wish you had dyno charts without the down pipe just to see what the gains are on totally stock.

My only concern is our 8AT is rated for i think 345 FT/LB of torque but on map 1 you're hitting over 400 ft/lb of torque...will this be a problem?

A couple of questions;
1. If I just got my harness 2/2, would I have the latest fw? What would be the difference in fw?
2. Am I supposed to disconnect the battery when installing or removing the harness?
3. Will the stage 2 offer any power advantages over stage 1 with a stock engine and no DP? Or will the stage 2 just offer the functionality of the CAN interface?
4. Is there only 1 catalytic converter on the 335? I thought most cars had 2 these days.

Terry answered with the following
1) I don't know. Maybe. Check the firmware date and email it in and we can check.
2) Yes, per the install guide.
3) More power, less lag, better features.
4) Yes. One big one.
