I'm about to install my VRSF Chargepipe Set before also installing the JB4.

Does anyone of you know about Boostpipe Failures?
(I mean the Turbo to Intercooler Pipe)

Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe replacing that pipe is strongly suggested when going with a bigger turbo. Its not really needed when doing a tune. Maybe someone else can chime in and correct me if Im wrong.

It does help in all applications, but I have not really seen failures of that pipe.. Its the main charge pipe that fails constantly.

Very rare.
I recommend only changing it if you are upgrading your turbos

That's interesting, one would think the combination of higher pressure and heat is much greater (therefore more destructive) on the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, than the pressure after (out of) the intercooler...

Agree with Mike, and don't think i've seen anyone break/pop a stock TIC. Did it in the 435i because, heck, once you're in there doing the uprated turbo, IC, etc you may as well.... i would suggest installing a GFB DV+ tho.

I think there may be less TQ / movement with the TIC pipe versus the Charge pipe..

+1

Its more a better flow install then a preventive failure install like the Charge Pipe.. If doing the full FMIC and charge pipe I usually recommend doing the TIC, but I wouldn't do the TIC on its own. Lots of work for install..

It doesn't break because it's built completely different than the charge pipe. The TIC is made with flexible rubber hose material (similar to a rubber radiator hose) with metal collars on each end that attach to the turbo and intercooler. The only plastic on a TIC pipe is the piece that holds the C clip in place. Perhaps with enough boost one could blow out the rubber though no one has ever reported that....but it can't fail the way the CP does since it's metal on each end instead of plastic. The two aftermarket TIC pipes I'm fmailiar with for the F3x models are slightly larger in diameter which may or may not gain you anything...at it's smallest point, the OE TIC pipe is almost 1 inch in diameter smaller than the ER and FTP TIC pipes.

Now I am getting paranoid about my charge pipe breaking. Can someone give me some help.

If I go with a catted pipe and I do get CEL's is there a permanent fix or do I have to keep clearing them? Does MHD provide the permanent fix or do I need different coding?

Last, I assume the dealer won't change it to an aftermarket part, what does it usually cost to get it installed and any suggestions in the DC are?

Thanks in advance.

There is a DP fix that is out now you can wire in..

CP install should be one hour labour charge.

I bought my 2014 335i with 34,434 miles previous owner was a mom, never drove it hard. 2 days after buying the car, chargepipe blew in the same way as the picture above. the C clamp snapped off, found it sitting in the catch pan. Let alone my car is bone stock. I upgraded to a VRSF CP and had no issues since. It did throw a CEL and Drivetrain Malf. after it blew.

Thumbs up CEL due to failed CP

I was pulling out of a Wendy's parking lot the other day and went WOT and next thing I know, boom my CP comes off with a Drivetrain malfunction error code and a check engine light. I just got an ER CP and plan on installing it myself on Friday. Would the CEL automatically go off when I install the new(and a million times better) chargepipe?

Could failure of the pipe trigger all this FC's?

120308 Low charging pressure
121531 Pressure to low
120408 Charging pressure control deactivation
102002 Air mass to low
121533 Charging pressure to low

Looks normal for a broken CP, let us know if you get any codes once the new charge pipe is installed

I will let you know tmrw what exactly it will be. Do you know if the CP is repaired under warranty by BMW?

Yes BMW will replace under warranty, but most opt for an aftermarket pipe as the new one is equally as prone to popping as the original
