I have a 2016 428i and get the squeaky brakes the morning after a night with precipitation. I’ve heard it’s actual rust dust that causes the noise and it’s seems to stop after driving about a mile.

No update required, the main cause of brake squeak has been known since disc brakes were introduced in the 1970s: lack of lubrication between the pads and pad carriers. The cure ever since then has been to pull the caliper and carrier, make sure the pads can slide freely in the carrier, use brake lube to keep them that way. In extreme cases pad and/or carrier replacement may be required because of rust accumulation due to lack of lubricant. Much of the problem stems from not doing periodic cleaning and lubing of the brakes. I do mine yearly.
