Rattling noise after replacing Valvetronic actuator on N55
2013 N55 106k miles, was having some Valvetronic related codes that could not be deleted so I changed the Valvetronic eccentric shaft actuator based on shop recommendation. The mechanic noted minor wear on the eccentric shaft gears, but determined it was in good enough condition to not need a replacement.
Driving home from the shop was fine, but that same day I took a 30 mile highway trip, and after exiting the freeway I noticed a rattle that was present while driving and more audible while at idle. I drove home after a few hours, and when I first started the car there was no rattle, but after the 30 mile drive home the rattle came back. It's hard to tell whether or not the rattle was present on the highway due to cabin noise. The following video was taken at idle, camera positioned on top of dash: https://vimeo.com/1038492907?share=copy (Unable to embed Vimeo for some reason.) Any ideas? Not quite sure if it's best described as a rattle or grinding sound. I also have a recent issue where the RPM will drop during low throttle when the car is not fully warm, causing a jerky ride in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear. Wondering if these issues are at all related. Here's a video of me revving it after a cold start in neutral while trying to maintain a low RPM: https://vimeo.com/1038495929?share=copy I thought that replacing the Valvetronic actuator might fix this, but perhaps it is something else (maybe VANOS Solenoids).
