Is this normal?

F30 model - The reverse display screen and beepers continue to operate when I take the car out of reverse until I pull the car forwards a short distance.

I am asking mainly because my E90 reverse display screen and beepers shut off as soon as I take the car out of reverse.

Yes, normal, and it turns off at a certain speed, not distance.

It turns off at a preset speed and/or distance, which can be coded. It's a handy feature if you're parking head in or parallel parking. Head in you put it into reverse to activate the PDC, which stays on as you then pull forward.

yeah that’s exactly why i find it handy, i have to inch forward into my garage and the rear cam is an easy way for me to tell when i’m fully in.

on a funny side note, the first time i drove my car at the dealer as a test drive, i was scared to depress the clutch because the rear view cam was still on and i thought the car might still think its in gear. felt stupid about it later. my e92 didn’t even have a rear cam so i wasn’t used to how bmw did backup cams.

I always back in to my garage, which is pretty easy with a rear view camera. It's a lot easier to pull out of a driveway going forward rather than backward. Plus if you ever needed to get a jump start it's a lot easier to access the charging posts.

My circa 1938 garage is only 8 1/2 feet wide, so it's a tight fit. I glued a 2 inch thick piece of mattress topper foam to the wall where my door would otherwise smack it. If it was any tighter I'd have to treat the paint with K-Y.

My wife couldn't back into a garage if her life depended on it, which I never could understand, considering how many hours a day she spent looking in a mirror.
