North America EVO Map Update
I have a 2018 440i GC that I bought one year ago. During my first oil change today, I wanted the full navigation map update. I know I get the regional map updates for free, and that seems to be working. After $150, the BMW service center did the full map update. It went from 2017-2 to 2018-1. But I have seen various forums that talk about versions 2018-2, 2018-3, 2018-4, and even 2019-1. How do I know that I have the latest map update possible? BMW Genius couldn't answer that question. They just referred me to the BMW service center that just did the update..... and I know what their answer will be. I can't find anything on the internet, BMW ConnectedDrive profile, or even the BMW store. I would like to have something official from a trusted website or documentation that shows what the latest map version for my BMW should be. That way I can go back to the service center and have them give me the latest map update.

My wife's X5 has the 2018-1 or 2018-2 (NBT Evo) that downloaded automatically for free. I paid for a map on my F30 (NBT) which was labeled 2019-1.
You should definitely request a more recent update. Also, you should look for BMW Nav updates online. The process is much easier, the FSC code to update is only $40-$50, and you can do it easily at home with a computer and USB flash drive. That's how I got my 2019-1 map update two months ago. |

So, according to shawnsheridan, the latest North America NBT EVO full map update is 2018-4. So my service center just updated my car with a full map database that is 3 cycles old. But of course, I just can't go to them and say that some guy on a forum told me the latest cycle is 2018-4. They will probably push back on that. I guess I will have to do this full update myself with the help of shawn.... see thread https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1161561

The only reason I suggest this is because EVO FSCs have to be bought (which you've done, to be fair), whereas with NBT/CIC you can generate the FSC yourself for free with an ENET cable. You should be entitled to the actual latest update from the dealer. It costs nothing to call the dealer to speak with the service manager, and best case scenario he tells you to come get the 2018-4 maps for free. I think you can talk to the service manager with or without the picture and still get a reasonable resolution. I doubt he will blow you off without actually looking into your concern, which is completely valid. Good luck either way, and keep us updated! |

Also, your 440i does not require an FSC code at all. So you can update the full map on your own using a USB thumb drive. You just have to find the maps to download.
I know the FSC is not required at all because I just did it on my 2018 430i (NBT EVO). You simply put the map data on the thumb drive and plug it into the USB port in your 440i. It will automatically walk you through the steps to start the install/update. That's it! |

As of today, the latest is North America EVO 2018-4. 2019-1 will be available very soon. Also, it is my understanding that you are entitled to one free full (i.e. not regional) map during the initial 2 or 3 year period of your car. Meaning, you shouldn't have been charged $150.

Just checked mine and it says:
Road Map North America EVO 2017-4 Automatic update: AL,FL,GA,VIR 2019-1 I assume this means somehow it updates itself for my region. How do they push it to the car? What does VIR stand for? |

Does anyone know how map data is handled? Is it baked into the map itself or does it pull from somewhere? The reason why I ask is even with 2019-1 installed, some roads, POI's and when giving directions are in French and its quite the annoyance that seems to affect all BMW's with iDrive 6. The issue isn't found on the X5 with iDrive 7 even with 2018-3 or 2018-4 installed.

The data is all stored on your hard drive, the only thing that's pulled more or less real time from external sources is traffic information. Why you'd get anything in French is odd. When in Quebec I still get everything in English, although with pronunciation of French words that's often unusual to say the least.

Did BMW start doing w/o FSC (or embedding FSC in vehicle) with EVO, ID6, etc.?

I think newer one's won't need it for awhile. It's built in? What year is your car?
