Charging module
My dad has a 2012 320d efficient dynamics with a charging fault that has been to a garage. They believe it is charging module fault but told him it needs to go to BMW.
My question is does the charging module need to be programmed to the car or can I just buy one and fit it to see if they are right? |

What do you mean by a "charging fault"? The car will adjust the alternator charge and typically maintains a 70-80% battery charge, allowing the efficiency dynamics to take it higher when coasting.

It is saying:
"Increased battery discharge when stationary" "Electrical consumers were temporarily switched off" I have tried searching and it is not the usual water pump or dash board etc. I caved and got it taken to a garage under warranty. They said they are 90% sure it is the charging module but I would need to take it to BMW to know for sure. The battery died after 3 days so it has had a new battery to eliminate that as an issue, but i am still getting the warning. |

That is telling you that there is something that is draining current when it shouldn't be.
My car used to do that when it was stupid cold outside and it was the iDrive. There was a SW update that fixed that for me, but it was also mentioning "iDrive running when the car is off". You'd need to find what is causing a high current drain when the key is off. |

Note that you can also get that error on a marginal battery. I started seeing that message one winter when I would come out on a cold morning. The cold temps would reduce the battery voltage too low and the computer would think there was something draining it while off. Eliminate the battery as an issue before you start swapping out parts.

Yes it is a parasitic drain and the battery is new but the garage said it was the "Battery charging module" my issue is i can find no info on where this is in the car.
Any search i do just brings up a "power module" not sure if this is what they meant or where that even is. So many modules on this car. |

Paracitic drain
My Foxwell 530plus arrived today. I read and cleared codes these are what comes back instantly.
Front electronic module FEM: 804124 - Permanent - Outside door handle electronics, front passenger door: Short circuit of DAT line to earth. 804246 - Permanent - Exterior mirror, left: Exterior mirror heating or electrochromic left faulty. Rear electronic module REM: 0301A0 - Permanent - Window regulator on passenger side door, rear: System is not normalised. Looking at these I think the rear regulator might just need resetting, the mirror glass replacing but the door handle is most likely to be my battery drain issue. Anyone had this before? is it fixable or is it a new door handle? Can i just pull the fuse to test the drain stops before paying out for a handle? If so which fuse is it? |
